I didn't until recently. My dealer only sells one that runs in the $110 range. He let me have it for free since I bought an RV from him.

I bought and use a portable surge protector after a nearby lightning strike caused some damage in our Southwind.

I have the Progressive Industries EMS unit.

Their are two type of protection. The basic Surge Protector which gives you protection from spikes only and the EMS unit that handles spikes but also handles high and low voltage and checks for miss-wired power.
I see they now have Lifetime warranty. Great company.

Unfortunately I doubt you have an EMS that not only protects against surges, but more importantly low voltage conditions which are much more common in a lot of CGs. A decent 30A EMS will run you in the $250 to $300 range.

If your RV has the “generator prep” option then you will have an Automatic Transfer Switch/Surge Suppressor built in – you will have to check to be sure.
We have the Progressive portable ones but they do not have the high/low voltage protection. We will upgrade to one with high/low voltage and surge protection in the near future.
FWIW – some protection is better than none especially with all the thunderstorms going on all over the country right now.

Yea, but I've never had my house burn down or been in more than a minor fender bender car accident, but I still carry insurance for that and an EMS is no different. You don't need it until it's too late.

I do not believe any surge protector will completely protect me if, for example, lightning strikes the pad mount transformer across the street from my trailer.
When lightning struck a neighbor's house there was a surge that went through the electrical feed to my house. The closest path to the ground was my A/C unit that sits about 10 feet from the meter. It melted/blew one of the connections to the A/C unit completely off , and that is some heavy guage wire.
But I have a portable surge protection unit with the high/low voltage protection. It has tripped about four times in 6 months. So it is doing its job on over voltage problems.
