I hear that there is road construction and long delays on I-40 near Albuquerque. Any insight? Thanks

No constructon right now, but the people who drive there are crazy. They pass you on both sides, and will race you onto the motorway from the entry ramps. Be very careful when you make lane changes or enter the motorway. Reminds me of LA.

There is no construction going on in Albuquerque. There is construction on I40 west of town that has the interstate down to 1 lane each direction for a couple of miles.
Now, as for bad drivers, yes there are a few. However, it is no worse than anywhere else in the country.

You're kidding, right? Either that or you don't really live in Albuquerque. I have never seen as many people intentionally run red lights anywhere else in this country. When there is a "No Right Turn On Red" sign, in Albuquerque that really means don't even bother to slow down when turning right. Police will see someone run a red light and just ignore it. I really do live in Albuquerque. I'm willing to put up with the crazy drivers because most everything else is so nice. BTW, I was also born here (many years ago).

And don't forget that if a Abq. native uses the turn signal it means that they have the right of way.

Sounds as though the OP should skip Albuquerque entirely, taking I10 to the south, or maybe I70 through Denver. Albuquerque doesn't even have a beltway, does it, much less a spiffy new tollway?

My memories from a drive through Albuquerque years ago have nothing to do with drivers and the freeway. I remember more the food, old town, the Pueblo museum, and the drive up Sandia Mtns (and the backroad north toward Santa Fe). But I supposed those sights are lost on people driving between RV parks on the interstates.

Really!!!! You guys need to get around a little more.

I didn't say there weren't any bad drivers in Albuquerque. But, Albuquerque has no monopoly on bad drivers. Try Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Antonio or just about any large metropolitan city and you will find plenty of drivers speeding, running lights, talking on cell phones and cutting off others, illegal turns and just about anything that the police are currently ignoring.

It's not just in Albuquerque.

If you think Albuquerque has bad drivers, you should try driving in Las Cruces.

We came through Albuquerque last Sunday and yep, there is construction on I-40 west of town. the delay was about 1/2 hour getting through the one lane area. After that, it was clear sailing through the city. And yes, I agree Albuquerque does not have the monopoly on crazy drivers. They are everywhere. someone once said that anybody going slower than you are is crazy and anyone going faster than you are is insane.
