Well, this is the second problem I've had or am having with my 2011 Duramax. First, had to replace the shifter cables and now I have a CEL. While driving on Monday, the "Low Quality DEF" lite lit along with the CEL. I'de read about adding DEF and the lite would take maybe 50 miles to go out. Put in a gallon and lite went away in about 10 miles, but the CEL is still on after about 50 miles. Checking around, am informed that it's probably due to a faulty sensor which will take it in and have the code read. Anyone have any other ideas? I always run with the exhaust brake on and almost never idle the thing.

Sorry about your problems. Hope you get it fixed quickly. Now to sit back and see how many others have had issues with the DEF systems.

As long as it's under warranty - that's the important thing. I'm interested to see how the DEF systems (and all of the associated items) hold up after 5-8 years of use.

Cousin has one of the new duramax's and has the low quality def light come on also. First time was a bad sensor. Light has come on again and is back in the shop. I'll find out what was the cause when he gets it back. One thing they did tell him is that he's not using it enough which to me is crap. He is only putting 1k a month on it but that should be plenty.

Wow I only put 4K miles onmy truck all last year, so I guess they really wouldn't like my use. I too wonder how all these marvelous EPA mandated systems are going to do as they age. I wouldn't buy a truck made after the 07 model year now because of the new systems.

Had 40K on it when I bought it and now has 46K. I do run it and don't "baby" it, but don't "dog" it either. I'll let you know what's up soon with a follow up.

The DEF has a shelf life so if not used enough, can create some issues.

Worked at a Massey Ferguson dealership and were required to buy a pallet of DEF for the new tractors. Some of it did get old and it threw some codes. However, in response DEF negativity, it did gain more horse power with less fuel usage with the same engines with out putting a bunch old style EPA equipment on them. We were pretty impressed.

Man I hope you don't own a vehicle newer than 1975 or run unleaded gas. You wouldn't want to look like a hypocrite or anything.

I bought and used some DEF that must have been old as it was solidified in the bottom of the jug. At first I assumed it was jelled on account of being cold so I forced it through the funnel. When the next jug was the same I decided to place the jug in hot water to thaw it out. It didn't thaw so I was a little concerned that I might have trouble with the stuff but so far nothing has showed up. So far I am thinking the DEF system is a very good solution to meeting the EPA requirements.
