Hi All,

Just at Walmart and loooked thru thier battery catalog and reading the narrative was enlightening. A couple of interesting facts on thier "DC" ("Deep Cycle") batteries:

Normal ones (Everstart with 1 year warranty)are rated for 65 cycles
Higher end ones (MAXX with 2 year warranty) are rated for 85 cycles

In the narrative, the only "DC" battery that DID NOT list "starting" as one of it's uses was the 27DC-6

Just thought I would pass it on....

Edited to put Deep Cycle in quotes...

That must be cycling 100% down to 10.5 volts.

Here is a US Battery chart to compare:

Yeah I am a little confused as well. It appears that the WM versions are less than 100 cycles and the US Battery version measures in the 1000's? Is that correct?

I'd say there is information not relayed about the issue. Why would anyone 1. ever discharge a battery to 100% intentionally? 2. Buy a battery where cycles would be less than 100 (in case it does NOT mean cycled to 100% discharged).

All that being said, that IS about the experience I've personally had with Everstart "deep cycle" batteries. Discharging never more than 50% and I only get about a years use from them.

The battery book I read these numbers in was hanging next to the Batteries in Walmart. I encourage someone else to take a read of it to make sure I was not misintrepretting it...

'Deep Cycle' is a marketing term just like 'New' and 'Improved'.
WalMart does not sell any true deep cycle batteries.

I may be misinterpreting this, too...

but, to put this US Battery chart another way:
if I run my battery down to 50% DOD every night, then charge it back to 100% SOC every day, I'll get 1150 of these cycles out of it.
That's over 3 years of, what I consider, extreme heavy duty.

No way.
