I hate to be the one to point it out, but it was The State of Louisiana that contracted with RA to provide the web based reservation system and they agreed to all charges and fees and probably had some input on just how much those fees and charges would be. So if you must be mad and want to fling around subjective terms that have no clear cut meaningful definition like "greed" or God forbid "Corporate Greed" you need to rethink where it is rooted. NC State Parks, just went to Reserve America this year. If you go to the NC Park website, it says that the cost of a site with e/w is $25. But on RA, it says $22 and then when you go to check out, it adds a $3 reservation fee. Wonder if they would charge that fee on walk ins as well.

Well, the quality of our parks here are top rate so I will never complain about a fee for reservations. Not sure if I like the idea of the fee for walk ups but it seems they've wanted to get the individual park office staff completely out of the reservation process. So, is it corporate greed? Don't know, but I do use Reseve America an awful lot and guess I'm a bit oblivious to what their fee actually is.

They can charge whatever they want, but I don't have to pay it and won't. Visit Louisiana? I don't think so. We just plan it right and drive on through. They get $0.00 of my tourist dollars, and any other state that plays that game is right beside them in the trash. If it smells like a tax, tastes like a tax, and looks like a tax, It's a tax to me. Tax Tax Tax. No thanks!!

Just how long do you think it will be before every state that uses the RA system does the same thing when they realize the profit center available? Better plan on using all private CG's.

Nearly all Forest Service Campgrounds and State Parks in Montana are "First Come, First Served", NO reservations. A notable exception is some group sites which can be reserved.
That's the way most of us like it. Reserve America hasn't gotten a foothold here yet.
I hope they never do.

Correct answer!
Besides, I find it hard to believe that any State or gov agency could develop a reservation system for no cost any more that any private person, company or "greedy" corporation. All of the taxpayers for the state would be subsidizing the few who are actually using the park.
The state could adopt a first come first served and have NO reservations if that would work for you that are complaining.

Unfortunately.....our parks are being given away to 'concessionaires' who now have control of our parks and can charge what they feel. The guy at the campground office has no way of knowing what sites are available unless he accesses the same database everyone else is using to detrmine which sites are reserved and which aren't. So you may not be accessing the database but the guy in the office is, and he has to input your reservation before someone else books one on the same site. The. guy at the campground can only give out the sites that are available for him to give out. If it is a Reserve American listed site, he can not give it out. At least that is the arrangement that I am familiar with. And yes, if he gives out a site that is reserved for drive-ins by the state, the state has to pay Reserve America a agreed upon price for that state reserved site. That is the standard contract that Reserve America, Inc hands to the state and negotiates on. It is how they make their money. Call centers are not cheap to operate from what I understand.
