...."that piece of junk you recommend I fully disagree with you."

I LOVE the piece of junk. It reacts instantly to the bird.

The newer HD receivers do not have the tone even though they show it on the menu. I have a standard def receiver in the bedroom of the RV and use its tone. I have a very good inline meter if needed. Those cheaper inline models are not selective enough for me. You can easily line up on the wrong bird.

The standard inline meter won't work with SWM setups if I recall correctly without doing some specific things. I actually have videos on how to set them up but am to lazy to watch them again.

The problem is it reacts to every bird in the sky and there's a lot of them up there, not just the one you are hunting for. I quit using it when I learned how to use the DirecTV display. It only reacts to the DirecTV birds.

Worse, it DOESN'T react to HD sats; different frequ.

Thanks for all the replies. It is an HD receiver and when I am on the road I just use the old round dish. I let my HD dish back at summer park so I guess no beep. I have an inline meter and I think that is too slow. We will continue with the wife calling out the strength with the two way radios. It works good but it takes two people to set up that way. Thanks again for all of the replies. NO BEEP

Call directv and get them to give you a "sled" and swm antenna for your rv. It takes my no more time to set up the swm using the signal bars on the tv than it did turning on and waiting for the in motion to lock onto the sd signal automatically.

It's easy with the sled. Adjust and tighten the post to as perfect vertical as you can with the level bubble, and then adjust the elevation to the numbers for your zipcode. Then swing the antenna to the peak azimuth reading, and retweak the elevation to maximize that reading.

2 minutes max on bad day.

If you are using a Slimline 3 as opposed to Slimline 5, don't worry about the fact that you can't see the Ka (99/103) satellites on the portable meter. Just set the tilt/skew for whatever the setting says and worry only about getting the 101, just like with the 18" round dish. The Ka's will be there. Even if your tilt/skew is off 10 degrees you will still see little change in signal from the Ka's. If you have a Slimline 5 just tell your receiver that it is a Slimline 3 and proceed just as though it is.

If you have a Slimline 5 the only use for those 110 and 119 satellites is for SD locals which you don't need anyway since you have them in HD from 99 or 103.

Yep. That is exactly my problem as well. With the old receiver, I had no problem. I have never been able to connect with the new HD one, using the old round dish, even with help from those indoors.
