Samsung RF217ACBP french door bottom freezer 20 cu ft fits the hole the 14' Norcold left.
No back up power. The air temp will rise to the 60's for the fridge and the 20's for the freezer in a days driving, but the food stays cold. On our last trip the wisdom of no alternate power was put to the test when the truck broke down twice on I-75. I ran an extension cord to the fridge at a truck repair shop from their outdoor outlet.

RoyB; You're right about the smell. That's the one thing that's not repairable. The smell gets in the cabinet liner, the insulation and the door seals. It's ruined.

We do love the new fridge, but it vents out the back so I left a space behind the fridge and left the old fridge vents open so it vents to outdoor air. Probably wouldn't work in the desert, but it's OK for Ohio summers and Florida winters.

Maybe this should be a new thread but do any of you guys with the residential fridges in 5ers or TT have a rear kitchen, concerned about all the bouncing back there and the compressor bouncing and eventually breaking a line due to metal fatigue.

So in your situation where dry camoing is not a big concern but you would maybe still like to have a back up plan, you may consider purchasing a 350 dollar, 1000 watt sine wave inverter, mount it close to your batteries so the cable run is short, and just hook an extension cord to it to your fridge. Run it every few hours to keep things cool/frozen. An alternative would be to mount it under the hood of your truck. Put a relay on it so that it would only work when the truck runs. Run the truck every 3 or 4 hours for 20 minutes so the compressor can come on and get things cool/frozen. This would be a good and inexpensive back up plan for you in the event of a break down or an unexpected overnighter. Of course a generator would do the same but then you would have to carry fuel etc.

Just throwing ideas out there.

We dry camp for weeks at a time with our residential but we have 8 batteries and solar array. Not needed if you don't dry camp.

Just an FYI for those considering a change to residential, Samsung has discontinued production of the rf197 counter depth fridge. There are a few left at various internet dealers and if you're interested, start your search now. I tried to get 5 big box stores to order one and none could get one. Of the 4 internet dealers that said they had them, wrong, not one had any in stock. However several have some stored and you can get them, for a little while longer. One dealer increased his price for what he has left to $2025 from a price last month of $1193, so good luck, if you wanted the Samsung rf197.......

TVman, remember that the RV units probably have more tubing and joints than the ones in question.
