Also, DW Googled a bit, the slide awnings are available for around $200 - how difficult to install? I am not really handy with tool, do NOT want to be drilling any holes in the new Fox Mountain!

WRONG!!!!!
let HER climb the ladder, clean it off, etc. and then decide.

Had slide awning on last camper and have just ordered them for the new camper. Camped without them and confirmed we wanted them again. We are having the dealer install them as we don't want to put holes in the new camper ourselves. Good luck with your decision.

...sig 5er is almost 6 yrs. old, all 4 slides have the covers....still in very good condition. I've always kept them clean and adjusted when needed....I wouldn't own a TT or 5er without them.

We tend to stay in campgrounds with trees, and a lot of fir trees, so we wouldn't be without them. I'm not going to climb up and brush off all three slides when I can spend a few bucks more and not have to worry about it. I've not noticed any flapping, and when it rains I don't worry about the water pooling in the topper. It will either evaporate or it will come off when the slide is retracted.
IMO if you don't stay under trees then it would be a tossup.

And that's the point! Why have to do that?
We also camp in heavily forested areas, plenty of fir trees. They are a MUST for us. Had a topper over the monster slide on the 2001 Sunline TT we just traded. Material was still in great shape. Never once heard that topper flap, even when camped seaside in NC.
During our recent pricepoint negotiation on a new rig, had the dealer toss in the toppers for all three slides. Having owned tag-along RV's since the late 90's, ya tend to get a good grip on what works. They work for me.

We were quoted about $600 for this option, did not get at time of purchase, but really are thinking we want to go back and have it installed (we only have one slideout).
Feedback?
Thanks!
Besides trash, another thing toppers keep of is SUN. If you're going to be camping where it's sunny, a topper can help keep your coach noticeably cooler. Even here in AZ at 7,000' elevation in the summer, you can feel when the sun hits the top of my slide with no problem. I wish I had one. I've thought about simply getting a big tarp and tying it over the top of my coach and staking it down over the top of the slide. Cut up a pool noodle to put on the edge of the slide to cushion the tarp.

But WAIT ! There's MORE.
Failed to mention the protection from the winged-rats (seagulls) should you camp at the beach. Would MUCH prefer to have their 'leavins' hit the topper, as opposed to having the mess dragged into the coach when the slide is retracted.
Cheers~!
