I replaced my 1621 pin box with the new Reese Goosebox. I know all the issues that come with using a 5thwheel to gooseneck adapter. However this system is approved by Lipert and will not void their warranty, so I did lot's of research on this system and final purchased the goosebox. Installed and inflated the air bag to spec. Towed my camper from San Angelo to Dallas. The ride was excellent, no bucking at all. It really felt like I was towing my old bumper pull. I am in no way trying to convince the masses that this is better than a 5th wheel hitch. I have always been a person who likes to see technology improve on the basics, and this design certainly does that. Very heavy duty, much more than the stock pin box. 2 people to install, or 1 very large person with a floor jack in the back of your pickup.
Any questions on something i might have missed, don't hesitate to ask.

Good report. Thanks, and happy to hear that you are happy. Interesting that LCI would approve this one, but not others. The effect on the fiver frame is the same with any of them. Or, maybe not. Perhaps the air dampening system makes the difference.**
Makes me wonder how much this "endorsement" cost Reese?

This link confirms that LCI believes the air ride minimizes the stresses on their frames.

I think that these are good alternative options for hitches. Specially for them not to void the warranty. Thanks for the information.

I'm sure it works well but at $1100 bucks it seems a little pricey. I use a gooseneck adapter on mine and it works very well for alot less $$.

Agreed. I guess the added value would be LCI endorsement, and possibly an improved ride. And in the worst case, how much is the cost of a fiver frame repair?

I'd "get it writing" from the manufacturer that they'll cover any damages that "might" come from towing their 5er with a GN, whether Lippert say's its ok or not...Lippert makes the frame, they don't put the sidewall on, and that's where I saw the damage on one once from being towed with a GN, cracks in the sidewall up front where 5er transitions back down.
If the company that builds the 5er states they're good with the GN, no matter what, hey, sign me up for one....er, when the price comes down some.

Love it! It will really be interesting to see the excuses from those who condemned those who use gooseneck adapters as the leverages are the same. Wait while I throw the popcorn in the microwave quick.
