Not necessrily! Be careful of blanket statements. The lighted switch to the electric heater in my water heater is 120V.

And to confuse matters even more, the lamps in mine are 24 volts. I did not realize that, and replaced a failed one with a 12 volt lighted switch. It is now brighter than the remaining switches (LP and water pump).
