Having just bought a used 1997 OK camper with a east/west bed, we need to replace it and are looking for ideas from the experienced folk. Space available is 60" X 79", but thinking of going with 58" x 75", to leave a small amount of room around it.
We are contemplating going with 4" foam, and wonder how people find sleeping on a foam mattresses. Just got a quote with zippered cover for $460. Would appreciate your comments and suggestions. Rick

I added a foam topper to our existing mattress and found it really weird to sleep on. I guess I like firm but a little give. The foam tends to suck you in.

If those that care to make a trip to Indiana ...
We just bought a mattress for our Lance from Elkhart Bedding Factory.
They make bedding for the RV industry in addition for home use.
We bought a 60" x 74" pillow top for $230 ... very comfortable!

I got a nice mattress from Ikea from around $150.00. I had a 4" foam in there and put the mattress on top of the foam when I bought it and loved it so much that I have never taken the foam out. More comfortable than my home mattress.

www.rvfoammattress.com They are showing a 5.5" thick mattress (60x75 for $179.00) that will come close to the price that you are looking at for a 4" thick. They have free shipping too on UPS to your location. I have one in my TC, and have several friends with them also.

The description for that one says for a person only up to 180 lbs. Really? 180lbs??! I'm not an "overweight" person, but at 6' tall I weigh in at 190....

Go to HD or Lowes. Buy a foam pad. Take 2-pieces of material large enough to cover both sides with extra left over each side. Sew them together ard the edges except one side. Sew a zipper on that side. Turn it inside out a there ya have it.

Put the zipper on one end or the side or both.

Easy and therapeutic to Ha!.

Costco has memory foam is various sizes. Foam is really easy to cut with an electric knife and even easier to join with spray glue.

Foam also comes in various weights and is sold by the cubic inch price according to the weight.

Eldorado Foam in Courtenay, here on Vancouver Island, is one of the cheapest places to get foam cut to your specs and covered with a zippered cover. You could check with them for the price of a $2. phone call to give you a price reference.

I have had the 5.5' thick mattress in my TC for several years. I am 5'11" and weigh in at 210 lbs and I have been quite comfortable with it. I sleep on my side if that makes any difference....
