You can go to any one of the 3 major credit reporting bureaus--and put a freeze on your credit. That way no one can use the info from the checks to take new credit using your name. One of the credit bureaus will report the other 2, so you only have to do one. Experian and Equifax are 2 of the 3, the name of the other one escapes me right now.

I would love to hear your explanation of this.
Only thing I can think of is you cant stick a check in a gas pump and get gas.

A debit card needs a pin. If you're thinking credit card, you need a zip. Isn't this common knowledge?
I wonder what "not again" is referring to in the OP title.

You could have a real problem with lost checks.
If they are used and there are no funds or a closed account then that can be considered fraud. Fraud is illegal and makes you subject to arrest if you’re stopped, and depending on your state you may not be able to re-new a drivers license. Also you could get turned over to a collections agency. My big worry would be some new rookie stopping me and throwing me in the County jail because I stiffed the local store in his county.
I am not sure but if I remember listening to Clark Howard he said a police report or something from the bank stating what happened may be needed and carried with you just in case.
You can freeze your credit with the reporting agencys and that may be free since there is a loss of checks.
And you still use checks???

A debit card has unlimited liability until you notify the bank. In other words, a bad guy can go to Walmart and clean out your bank account in minutes, long before you notice the card is missing. The thief doesn't even need to know your PIN, they can just ask the transaction be run as "credit" instead of debit, and an educated guess will work on any question for a ZIP code. Usually getting the first three digits will work.
Think your account can't be cleaned out quickly? Have you priced a big screen TV or a new set of tires lately?

Say what? Fraud? Maybe, but not by the poster. He didn't commit the misdeeds, the thief did. If the thief robbed a convenience store with a knife stolen from the poster, would the poster be subject to prosecution for that crime? Certainly not.
Of course, the loss/theft should be reported to the law enforcement agency where it occurred, if only so the card could be returned if found.

They would need to have your pin number to be used as a debit card and even then most banks follow similar rules as credit cards .. If the debit card is used as a "credit " card .. Signature req .. Then credit riles apply . At least where I bank that's the way it works .. You should check yours . Checks are used as debit cards most places they scan them in and take the cash right then and in many cases hand you your check back . Switch to a card less hassle ( I hate being behind a check user ) and easier to replace if lost.

Never, ever use your debit/credit card as a debit transaction - always use it as a credit card transaction...if they get ahold of the card number and used as a debit transaction your loss is however much is in your checking account - if you use it as a credit card your losses are limited to $50...

My debit card company will freeze the charges or withdraws for the day. They have called me several times when I used my card for large purchases to make sure that it was a good draw...I can go online at night and see everything that is about to be paid for that day....I still like the card bette than checks...
