I feel like a ditz because I can't find my inquiry from last weekend.

We plan to buy a Forest River Sunseeker 2012 Class C & want to tow my Honda Fit to drive when we get to the sun belt. My license plate frame sayings SAVING GAS TO BUY RV if you
happen to see me driving around.

My ques is: Does anyone ever get a little trailer to put the car on or do you always have to
tow it with a bar or dolly?

Thanks

THIS May be the thread you posted last week. Just go and check your "previous posts".....
It will be in your "Profile".
As far as the Fit, you can tow it behind your MH in a variety of ways....4-down (with tow bar), on a Tow Dolly (with rear wheels on the road), or up on a trailer.

Each has it's advantages and disadvantages.....and there are lots of threads with that information. The Fit has the advantage of being towable "4-down", which most folks like, as it's easier to get hooked up and unhooked. Disadvantage is that the tires wear, as if you were driving it. A towing package (Tow bar, Base Plate, and brake system) will cost a few grand.

We have two Fits, and I think about making one of them into a "Toad", but we will probably go with a Dolly, since there may be times when I want to bring along our Mini-van, and don't want to pay for the additional Base Plate and hook-ups. The fit is a great choice for a Toad, as it's quite roomy for such a small and lightweight car.

Good Luck

I towed a Fit as a Toad for a couple of years, and it was a good toad. Our Fit was a 5-speed, and I didn't realize the auto was towable 4-down

I've towed my 2010 Fit Sport with automatic for the last 2 years. I got my tow bar from Night Shift Auto and my base plates from Roadmaster.
It's a great toad.

We just bought a 2012 Honda Fit. We had a Roadmaster base plate; tow bar and Invisi brake installed. It is towable 4 wheels down. It will cost you about $3000.00 if you buy new equipment. A tow dolly would be cheaper, but then you have to store it at your camp.

But you can do it new at half that price if you look around. I'm closer to the under side of $1500 and all is new except the ReadyBrake, which I purchased used from a individual on another RV forum. The only thing I had professionally installed was the baseplate, and that was done by a local body shop, who has done it for others.

I've installed several base plates over the years, and would much rather do that than drag around and store a tow dolly. Once you buy the tow bar and lights (I've been using remote magnet lights for the last 4 or 5 years rather than setting up lights on the toad) the base plate (Blue Ox) is usually around $350 and a 5 or 6 hour installation. I remember the installation on the Fit being pretty easy. Let us know what you decide.
