not opposed to another CRF-R or a Yamaha YZ-F I just don't know much about the Yamaha. so let the honda vs Yamaha bash begin....

I would say ride them both and buy the one that feels best to you. With proper maint. they are both good bikes. People have there loyalties to different brands and will always say there brand is better. In reallity it all depends on how you ride and maintain them. If buy used make sure to check them over well. Look to see if bike is clean and if they put a hour meter on then they were trying to track for service intervals.

If you are going to go with the Yamaha definitely go with the new 2012 WR450. They have finally put decent forks on it, (YZ forks and shock) still have the bullet proof titanium 5 valve head, and like you stated it is fuel injected. If you are going to go with a used WR get a 2007 or newer. 2006 and earlier had the steel frame, and were top heavy. I have a 2008, and had a 2005 WR 450. The new Honda x is suppose to be fairly decent also, except no fuel injection.

Hey thanks for all the responses. Surprised it stayed so nice. Sounds like everyone favors Yamaha over Honda. Guess I'll be upgrading my riding gear to blue. Actually My uncle used to own a Honda store but has since retired so my loyalty to the Honda brand has gone out the door. A dealer in Vegas was advertising a 2010 or 11 WR450F for $5500. I called them hoping I could get out of paying sales tax( no sales tax in MT) but can't.

I don't know if the Honda 450 is the same as the 250. I curse my wife's 250 when I change her oil, because it takes twice as long (separate engine oil and tranny oil). The maintenance on my WR450 seems a lot simpler.

I'm already biased towards the WR, but the thought of getting the EFI would sell me.

EFI is what I want. Not sure my budget will allow for it. May have to sell some snowmobiles

And as one of my kids said many years ago, "Boys ride blue bikes and girls ride those pink (red) bikes." That's how it worked out in our family anyway: my son and I ride Yamahas and my wife and daughters ride Hondas.

I'd better hope my daughter doesn't read this. She will be making fun of her brothers on their pink bikes

My Honda's (450 R's) have been excellent- With regular oil/air filter changes the red bikes are pretty good. Having said that- I am done kick starting a bike.

Gonna pick up a new KTM this year- efi, lights, starter, plate- how can you resist?

Have you looked at the Husabergs? FE570, fuel injected, dual sport, awesome power! They are part of KTM, so a lot of similarities. Have had mine over a year now, no problems, and has just been a great bike!!!
