Edmonton Valley Zoo is a possibility. Too bad that the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (just the other side of Elk Island Park) isn't open until May long weekend, its an open air museum that tells the story of the settling of Central Alberta by Ukrainian settlers. If you are back this way in the summer, it's worth seeing. Its open from the May long weekend to the Labour Day weekend and has re-enactors who tell you the history of their house, store, church or school.

Well, they did get 5" of snow yesterday.
Spring time in Canada means if the sun is shining and its above freezing, we have t-shirts on.
If the house your sitting has a fire pit, do the book thing.

My wife is into gardening and flowers, so we spent an enjoyable afternoon (except for the mosquitoes) at the Devonian Gardens, just outside Edmonton near the town of Devon.

Kind of an updater..the rail museum at Wetaskiwin is closed. Too bad they couldn't post a sign before one makes the trek out the range roads to get there.
The Reynolds Air/Transportation Museum IS open. Spent some quality time there. That's a big piece of real estate it sits on. It's split into several buildings and stuff in the fields. Some groovy planes/cars/tractors.

But..best of all..a guy that read my OP lives close by and has invited me to stop by. That was nice and am heading to do that Sunday afternoon.
and there is a Cabela's in town.....how cool is THAT!!!!

My wife (who's been there) says: Jasper National Park. Great hiking and beautiful. According to Google it's 4 hours from Edmonton, but she said she got to it much faster than that (Google takes one to the center of the park - it's large).
Also, Calgary is 3.5 hours away.

If you are into plant photography, you might want to check out the Muttart Conservatory.
It is the northernmost botanical conservatory in North America.

Thanks for all the in-put folks. I am away as of Tuesday morning, the 17th.. Had a great stay and have a few things marked to do in May when I am back. I want to walk up/down Whyte. Kinda of a funky part of town and neat shops and eateries.
