Hi Folks,

Can you recommend a source of inexpensive 20A30A (TT-30 and L5-30R) adapters? Most of what I've found is in the $30 range, which seems very overpriced.

Thanks!

Hi,

Walmart sells both a dog bone type and an inexpensive molded plug. I get much better service from the more expensive dog bone type.

You looking to plug in the RV (30A) in to a 20 outlet? I bought my adapter at Walmart, and I don't remember, but it was probably about $10-15.

I have the $5 adaptor type without any problems. I use it while plugged in at home. Love to hear why the more expensive dog bone type is better.

A TT-30R to NEMA 5-15P adapter is easy to come by at WM for around $5 & up. The TT-30R to NEMA 5-20P is not as common.

The locking receptacle makes it more expensive. Unless you have a locking receptacle you plan on using regularly, and it's needs to be locking for other devices you use, then consider changing it to a TT-30R. Then no adapter is needed. I've yet to see a CG with twist lock receptacles.

Remember that a 20A plug will have one blade perpendicular to the other. A 15A plug has parallel blades.

Thanks guys. I have a 10/3 extension cord with 20a ends that I want To run between my rig and my two honda2000s running in parallel. Bad idea?

Maybe hacking off the 20a ends off the cord and replacing with tt30s would be a better solution?

Ah ha!
You can custom make an adapter here for $63:
http://www.stayonline.com/custom_power_cords.aspx

Or you can buy the ends at Home Depot and 1' 10/3 cord to connect them.

Or just buy the L5-30 and put it onto your 10/3 extension. You still need a 30/20 adapter for the RV like this:
Marinco 30/20 on google (real 20 amp)

Otherwise yes you can just convert the 10/3 extention to TT-30 extension cord.

Sorry that was 30 amp to 50 amp. Here's one that's 15 to 30 for $8.00

L5-30R? what the hey is that?

You say 20/30 but then both say 30.

Are you plugging a 30a RV into a standard 15 amp outlet? (NEMA 5-15R)
If so here: $2.35 @ tweety's

My experience has shown the dogbone style runs cooler.
