While returning home from snowbirding in Florida, a truck driver flagged me over to the side. I found the living room large emergency exit window loose and flopping at bottom and just hanging at top by one side. This was a safety hazard to others as well as expensive to replace. Found the screws had backed out of the red plastic holder and fell to floor, allowing the other side to work loose allowing window to be sucked outward by passing big trucks. Just passing on my bad experience and lucky no one got hurt.

Saw a bedroom one flapping between Surprise and Kingman a few days ago. Yesterday we followed a MH with a basement door flapping. Chris

Wow. I couldn't imagine that window being launched down the highway. After reinstalling the screws, did they hold up for the rest of the trip?

Yes it did hold after reinstalling the screws but do I trust it will not happen again sometime in the future. Still thinking of some way to make me feel better knowing it will never happen again. Thought about installing permanent screws, then there goes the emergency exit.

Still thinking of some way to make me feel better knowing it will never happen again. Thought about installing permanent screws, then there goes the emergency exit. I've never had one of those pop-out emergency exit side windows. My campers always had the emergency exit roof vent instead, so I'm really not familiar with how the side windows work.
Anyhow, from your description, it sounds like the red plastic holder is what keeps the window in place and the reason the window opened was because the screws holding the holder to the camper framing backed out?
I would inspect the holder to be sure it is still in useful condition. Use as-is, or replace as necessary. Then use the next size larger screws to screw the holder back on and use a little wood glue on the screw threads to help ensure they don't come loose again.

There is probably a way to secure the window while traveling, an extra latch, that can be undone while camping so you can still use the emergency exit while camping.

It might be possible to secure the lower latch using safety wire. In aviation where you need to secure a switch or latch, but be able to move it if necessary, copper break-away wire is used just like steel safety wire. If you try it, use the thin copper, not steel safety wire. Copper will break easily but the steel safety wire won't.
