Aunt had a strawberry patch outside the kitchen. During seasons, she had June bearing tn beauties and ever bearing heirloom varities. She picked every morning and evening. Nothing like fresh ripe falvorful strawberries and cream or on cereal, jam, ice cream... Getting hungry.
As a teenager I raised about 25x25 patch of Tn Beauties. Tons and tons of berries.
Still taste them.
I'd pay double to get some of them now.

WOW ... wish I was there. ANY roadside stand we stop at is WAY more expensive than any grocery. ( The grocery store berries just don't have the same flavor.

marielw824, yes we are blessed in many ways by the roadside stands. All summer long whatever is in season we can get fresh. I quit growing a garden because I can buy it cheaper from roadside peddlers. I am never without, people at Church bring in their extras and it is FREE. It is just me and the wife now so it doesn't take much for us. BTW, the strawberries were GONE after Easter dinner, kids and grands ate them all up.

The only thing I can not get here is Rhubarb, really miss a good pie or cake, it makes no difference. Maybe I can get some when I go up to a Family Reunion in Iowa this July, can't wait.........

You know we noticed that last summer. We stopped at a roadside stand to buy 'homegrown' tomatoes and they cost more than those at Kroger. And didn't taste a bit better. And so often those 'homegrowns' are brought in from further south.

Once again I say keep your eye out for local farmers markets. There everywhere. Google it out for your area and see what shows up. I found this site on the first try but, I have no idea if it's any good.

While we were travelling one year when the strawberries came into season in our area I had a local farmer I knew save me what they call overripes in his deep freeze. They are the ones that are just that, over ripe and soft, but super sweet. I picked them up and thawed them and made the best strawberry wine you can imagine.

YUMMMMM!!!!

Lots of "pick your own" out here but we've got a few months to wait.

We have a lot of raspberry plants around our property. The DW picks them so we have a lot of 5qt ice cream buckets for eating and freezing. So far our strawberry plants are still getting established.

Well, the last strawberries were so good, I went and bought another 5 quarts today! I in fact, just finished slicing them up and put them in the fridge not 15 minutes ago. I bought them about 2:00 PM CDT, they were picked this morning, and are now in the fridge. They will not last past Sunday dinner when the kids come in again...........

BTW, I have a couple of blueberry bushes and I looked at them yesterday and they are LOADED with little green berries, can't wait for them to get ripe also.
