We will be traveling into Canada near Vancouver and then traveling to Calgary for the Stampede. Any travel tips, campgrounds, border crossing choices or road advice for us?

Banf, Lake Louise, and the glaciers are worth a few days of your trip. That was our destination when we visited.

We enjoyed staying at Revelstock on Hwy 1 also.

Cross at the sumas north of belingham.Take HY# one till #5 then #5 to kamloops and #1 to calgary.TONS of stopping places and camp grounds etc along the way.Beautifull drive all the way
Dont use the peace arch crossing as its traffic crazy(nuts)long long lineups and then u have nutty traffic all the way till u get to sumas

The Peach Arch border crossing is the easiest to navigate, but all the crossings are fine. Just try to avoid them in the late afternoon especially on weekends as the cross border shoppers can make the wait be up to an hour. Campgropunds in the metro Van. area are slim but there
a few. I don't know much about them as we never camp close to home.
As far as routes to take from Van. to Calgary. Don't take Hwy.3 as it is very twisty and slow 2 lane. Hwy. 5 (the coquhilla) is just like an interstate but thru some very hilly mountain terrain.
Hwy. 1 thru the Fraser Canyon is a beautiful drive and has a lot of history. You might enjoy stopping at Hells Gate Canyon. But it also is 2 lane and twisty, although not as bad as Hwy. 3.
What kind of rig do you have? That might determine which route is best for you.
Travel thru B.C. and Alberta in the summertime will provide you with amazing scenery. Enjoy

Thanks for the advice. We are traveling in a 40ft diesel. I have looked into a few campgrounds. One in Revelstoke; Canyon Hot Springs. One in Chilliwook; Cottonwood Meadows. Springcreek in Canmore. Springhill between Calgary and Banff. Any thoughts on these campgrounds.

I will assume you need/want to go to Vancouver area?? Its a long ways out of your way going that way just to get to calgary? A much much nicer drive would take #5 to weed ca and then 97North straight through to Mara BC just North of Vernon BC and there u hit#1 and on to Calgary.way easier drive than fighting the portland, seattle, tacoma Vancouver traffic.Very little wait time at the Osoyoos border crossing.Beautifull drive through the Okanagan lake valley and you miss the mean climb through the cocahalla bc#5 highway

You may have trouble getting a casmpground around Calgary during the stampede, as well as tickets to the Stampede itself. This is the 100th anniversary of the stampede and many venues such as the chuckwagons, are already sold out. You MIGHT be lucky enough to get tickets in the nosebleeds but I would not depend upon walk ups

Sumas Crossing for sure or at the very least Aldergrove.
Revelstoke is well worth the stop as it is a beautiful place.9I know I lived there for 25 years)

If you go this way and cross at Osoyoos the Okanagan is truly beautiful both north and south of the border.
Nice provincial parks at Bear Creek near Kelowna, Ellison or Kekuli Bay Park near Vernon, Heralds Park west of Salmon Arm. However these are all very popular in the July August period and a reservation is required.
There are also a number of private RV Parks, along the way to Calgary but the ones in Alberta will be definitely hard to get during Stampede.
Maybe try Bow Valley Provincial park that is near Canmore, Alberta and about a 1 hour drive to the Stampede.
