This is probably the wrong forum but I need to thank you guys for the recommendation for Dynamat. My Arctic Cat Prowler was so noisy that I almost didn't want to ride it. I was always reluctant to buy Dynamat because of the price, what if it didn't work? Last week I figured, so what, it's only money. I lined the consul/dog box with the product and am thoroughly satisfied. For the first time the noise of the Cat is from the exhaust and not from "surround sound". You guys and your experience are the greatest..

Here's what I think I've learned. I thought sound waves had to be interrupted and muffled. That is probably true but I didn't know about "stuff" that absorbers the waves and projects them further. (Excluse my ignorance). If the items that are affected by the sound and would normally vibrate to increase the sound is muffled, so is the noise. When our Pit barks, the tubes of the door bell "sings". So is any sound of any noise makes any material vibrate to make more irritating noise. My new theory, keep any material affected to the noise from vibrating, thus preventing further noise. Danamat does this..It's a stick aluminum covering that keeps the applied surfaces from vibrating.. (Please help)
I was a professional (MECP certified) installer for nearly 12 years, and installed my share of Dynamat. The stuff is great, and you described it well. A lot of items resonate due to sound created around them. This resonance not only transmits sound, those items then create their own noise.
If insulating (isolating) noise, you can use a lot of material, and cover areas completely. If you are just wanting to stop a panel or surface from vibrating, you can use a small amount of Dynamat. I could stop a trunk from buzzing and rattling with 2 square feet of Dynamat.

Not sure I understand...you Dynomated your ATV? I've heard of lining the generator compartment, but never an ATV.

An Arctic Cat Prowler is a Jeep type Atv with two seats separated by a consul and a storage/dump box in the back. . The consul is over the motor. The underneath motor cover is what I covered with the Dynamat Sound Proofing. My Artic Cat 500 is so quiet that I would make no attempt to make it any more quiet....
