We plan to buy a motorhome next fall & head south, semi-retire. My husb will be almost 64 & I will be 60 in spring 2013. In figuring out our finances, the one thing that worries me is that we're going to hold on to our house up north for a while. I'd like to sell it but due to economy, as we all know, homes are not selling or basically ours is now worth less than what we owe. I'd be willing to rent out our home but husb not so much. All beside the point.

My question is, have some of you had any problem finding p.t. work? I would like to work 24-32 hrs/wk. Sounds like we'll be heading to AZ but I wonder since everyone else is too, is there a shortage of jobs for young seniors? I'd be willing to do the WorkCamper thing & can try that forum if I don't hear of anything here.

We moved from WA 6 yrs ago, where I had a good clerical job at a hosp, to ID where I couldn't find anything but a crappy call center. In AZ, I'd rather clean toilets than go to another call center so I'm just wondering if some of you ladies out there could share the good, the bad, and the ugly on being a little younger than husb & wanting to contribute more money than just the 401K.

Thanks,
Dorie

most local businesses, including restaurants need additional help during the big customer/sales season.

On the main page, scrool down to the workcamping forum, lots of information there.
Lowes and Home Depot both hire retirees for part time work.

I believe Walmart does this as well- once you apply and get accepted you can work at any walmart.

The Business channels report that most of the new hires were 55 & older. Glad to hear, Us gray hairs are still hireable.

Quite a bit of part time work here in the RGV but unless you have a needed skill the pay will be low. Lots of seasonal retail between Thanksgiving & New Years. It is very helpful if you speak some Spanish in both South Texas & AZ.

Before you hit the road, make sure that you have a plan to deal with health care. That is what kept us working till nearly 65.
