Since my new(er) truck is a 2008 Chevy 4x4 dually with air bags, I really don't need the weight distributing hitch anymore (and honestly don't feel a difference so I havn't be using the weight dist. bars). My question is, is it a bad idea to use the hitch without the weight bars also? Aside from the hitch weight itself, and the slight angle it has, I don't see much difference. So is there any concern running it without the bars?

Shouldn't be a problem but a nice aluminum drop hitch would look alot nicer on that 2008 dually. Myself, if I had the WD hitch, I would use it...with the bars.

Totally depends on the tongue weight. Does it excide the rating for the hitch or not? Bars increase the available tongue weight. Do the numbers.

Your stock hitch probably says 500lbs without WD bars.
You won't get a toy hauler with that light of a tongue weight.

Doesn't the ball pivot +12 degrees/-3 degrees?? I would just go get a regular draw bar and ball instead of useing the WD hitch without the bars. I really don't think that un-arrested banging back and forth on the hitch ball would be a good thing.

I could be mistaken but my stock hitch on my 09 Chevy Dually was rated at 1000 lbs. I picked up this handy little gadget to make my towing life much easier as every trailer I own or tow has a different hitch size. I've also towed using the WD hitch without the bars, looks linda tacky but works fine.

What difference does that make? The hitch is rated to a certain weight without WD bars. I don't care what it is hooked to.

There is no problem using a weight distributing hitch shank and head without the spring bars to tow a trailer with. I have done it many, many, many times, for years.
This is provided that your hitch receiver is rated to carry the trailer's tongue weight without using the spring bars, of course. My hitch is a class 5, rated to 1200 lbs without weight distribution.
If you're going to be using the hitch without the bars on a permanent basis, I would adjust the ball tilt angle to level. Also, adjust the ball height to ensure the trailer is towing level without the bars. Other than that, carry on.
