I like to cook when camping in the RV, but outside. Wife found an antique cast iron waffle maker. Use it over campfire coals. I guarentee no better waffle and no complaints so far, especially from the grandkids. Haven't found any breakfest better than one cooked over a campfire.

Newbie, you got it. The only thing to cook on is cast iron. I rediscovered why mom and grandma's cooking was so good. It's just as important what your skillet is made of as what you cook in it. I use my cast iron cookware at home as much as I do on the road.

It's the little things, isn't it? I usually use my campfire in the morning, just for heat, and for commeraderie... But in the evenings we make popcorn, cookies, pizza, etc.

We like to go to thrift sales while camping -- find the old cast iron gear for cheap. When it comes to the campfire, I like my cast iron skillet.
