Just wondering about the general idea of taking US-2 the whole way across the northern tier from East Glacier, MT to UP of Michigan this summer? I thought it might be a nice change from I-90/I-94 and have some new things to see. I've been on US-2 around the south side of Glacier Park before (which was fine) but never the rest.
I realize this is covering many miles and several states, but are there any thoughts about the condition/type of highway? We won't be in any hurry but also wouldn't want to travel at 35MPH either. It seems like it would generally be a '55MPH' type of road except thru towns? We will be in a 37' gas class A with a toad.
Thanks!

The last I traveled it the road was fine. The towns are small and not all have fuel and the campgrounds are `rustic' sometimes.
Stop by Roosevelt N.P. on the way.

Allow plenty of time to get thru the Williston area, say from the border to almost Minot. Lots of heavy truck traffic due to the oil boom thats going on there. Other than that, good road & four lane all the way thru N. Dak. Also, couple of decent campgrounds on the east side of Glasgow, & also at Ft Peck.
Stay safe.

Used it in '08 E. t0 W. & found it to be stress-free & leisurely.
If you are not in a hurry it's fine.
Enjoy the ride & be safe.

US-2 is a good scenic alternative to the interstates. Speed will be lower than on interstates but there will be more interesting things to see and do versus the standard exit-area accommodations. No driving problems as the terrain is generally rather flat east of Glacier.
Highways like US-2 are the reason to have an RV that allows you some time to real the real America.

Highway 2 through Montana is really nice, great vistas. We went that way last summer (towing a 5'ver) on our way to eastern Montana. Lots of places to stay along the way. Check out missouririver.visitmt.com and russell.visitmt.com lots of info on things to see and do.

Thanks to all for the advice and suggestions so far! It sounds like this is the way we'll go this summer. I've travelled I-90 and I-94 so many times that US-2 seems like it will be a nice change of pace....

We enjoyed US2. Drove it in 2010, and was in fine shape. Made good time and was a nice change from 94! We were abit worried about lack of services, but found there to be more than we expected. Really enjoyed a few small town stations where we talked to the locals and learned a few things! Really nice folks. Glacier is awesome, wishing you a great trip!!!

We drove that route a couple years ago. Good road although it can get windy. You may want to get reservations at any campground from Williston to Minot ND if you plan to stop in that area due to the oil boom.Places we stopped that route Prairie Acres Williston,Oakwood Inn Rugby,Royal Oaks Bemidji all FH campgrounds. Have fun
