Stop by Roosevelt N.P. on the way.
Wrong.
Just the North Dakota section of US 2, west to east, one can find good fuel stops in Williston, Ray, Stanley, Berthhold, Burlington, Minot, Towner, Surrey, Rugby, Devils Lake, Lakota, Michigan, Grand Forks Air Force Base and in Grand Forks itself.
Now, that is NOT every little town along the route, but good grief. None of these towns is that far away from any of the others. Its only about 350 miles from Williston to Grand Forks.
Montana would include Culbertson, Wolf Point, Glasgow, Malta, Havre, Shelby, Cut Bank, Browning and East Glacier.
Plan your fuel stops out in advance, and there is no problem along this route finding fuel.

We never know where we're going till we get there!
We've done that route and really enjoyed it. At eastern Montana consider staying at Ft. Peck's Corps campground - huge, grassy sites! Enjoy your trip.

I drove that route in 1977, on a trip from Michigan to California. I had no problems in a Winnabago back then. Don't see how there could be any issues now.
