We are thinking of the area for Nov-Feb".. Any advice on weather, issues?
We like fishing, hiking, nature,reading, etc.
We are able to do 2wks boondocking at a time. We are 40' DP and tow.

Weather in the RGV is usually nice and warm (compared to most of the rest of the US). Normal night time lows in the 50s with a few nights lower or higher. Day time highs range from 90s to 60s. Close to the coast breezes are common with a few windy days (35 to 40 MPH) RARELY ever freezes but it's not impossible. WE usually stayed a couple of months and had maybe two or three rainy or drizzly days and an OCCASIONAL downpour.
Two major wildlife refuges in the area and both offer activities both organized and individual. Hiking and wildlife viewing is a good way to spend a day or a week. Ocelot is a possible but rare sighting at Atacosta (north of San Isabelle and across the lagoon from South Padre Island). Campgrounds are few and far between in the RGV but can't turn a corner without finding an RV Park. Every conceivable LEVEL of parks are available and most require no reservations unless you're particular about WHICH site or in some cases which RV Park. Locals are VERY friendly but tend to drive on the shoulder of the roads

Windy. Oh sorry they call it breezy. So it's breezy and humid in the RGV.

We've been there for the past 12 yrs. Temps are usually moderate, a couple of grey, 50'ish days in Jan maybe, not much rain, mostly sunny.

Winter in the Rio Grande Valley is "usually" fairly warm and windy. January of 2007 had 17 days with measurable precipitation, and it was cold. That was one extreme. Ice on the freeway in January of 2011 was another exception. Very cheap compared to Florida.

Do Texas Nov-Feb (lots to see and do and very RV friendly) not just the RGV. RGV would be a good choice Jan/Feb for the warmest that Texas has to offer during the winter. It will also allow you to see if it's what you enjoy (many do not.)
Just spent a month on Galveston Island, I was amazed at how many spent the whole winter there in their mobile RV's. So don't assume you need to be in the RGV to have an enjoyable winter based only on this forum.

We spend some time every winter in the Valley and feel it is comparable to SW AZ without the dust storms. Jan-Mar of 2012 we spent in Houston while I was undergoing treatment at MD Anderson, we had 11 nights during those months the park shut off the water and we picked up our hoses due to freeze warnings. That said, I didn't have to disconnect the hoses once from Nov thru March at out lot down in the Rio Grande Valley at Mission.
