If 15", I'd buy Maxxis (in fact, I do). Over 200,000 miles on ST tires so far, with only problems being a few repairable nail punctures, but have never yet used Chinese tires and have no plans to do so. It is a choice.

I spent the better part of the day on the phone with all the local tire shops in my area... they all want to sell the Galaxy Road Rider. I realize that these guys are in business and they want to make margins, but if these tires where really garbage wouldnt at least one of the dealers I called try and sell me something else ? at least of one of the dealers must care about reputation...the jump to marathons is about 300 bones...

I think they are the flavor of the week. Not much info available about them other than they are really cheap. Go ahead and get them and let us know how many failed in the first 6 months. Speed rating is confusing. Most sites list N/A, I found one site that says speed rating is B or 50KM/31MPH. Chris

This is the problem they want to sell what you don't want to buy.
Shop a little longer and buy what you want.
If everyone had done this we would not have Chinese******as the only thing on the shelf now.
Not much savings if you have to buy two or three of them or replace yearly whatever it is.
Certainly no bargain if one or two or all threads come off and cause major damage or even loss of life.
I prefer to buy American even if cost a little more and even then be selective based on experience.
I went through the Chinese valve stem fiasco and thank God it didn't cost our lives when the stems rotted on the wheel at 70 mph and the tire came apart two different times, and almost one other then a flat while easing to a repair place.
I've had it with replacing string trimmers, blowers, etc because if it is mad in China it is made to survive only ling enough or not even that to the non existent 90 day warranty or whatever.
Buy American

skipnchar wrote: Maxxis are the ONLY ST tires that my trailer will ever run (unless I start having problems with them). So far I've got over 40,000 miles with each of my last two sets of them and a darned good start on the next set. I prefer to stay with the ST rated tires because of the side wall strength. If you go with LT then go up a load range to compensate for weaker side walls. They DO give you a whole lot more brands to choose from.
Most tire dealers purchase their tires from a wholesaler who handles virtually all brands. The dealer may not carry Maxxis in his inventory but he more than likely has access to them as an order. Usually takes them a day or two to get a set into their store (if they want to). That's how I buy my Maxis sense we have no dealer in town who carries them.
Agree with Chris - you have your info backwards on the side wall strength of ST -vs- LT tires!.
Maxxis are good tires, as are other many other tires mfg in China.
Chinese (and plants in other Asian countries) are very capable of producing quality tires to the desired specs.
Unfortunately ST tires are at the bottom of the barrel.
As you state - not all/many dealers carry Maxxis. this can/could be a problem *if* you need a replacement tire "somewhere" on the road.
Your replacement will get there when it gets there.
Lastly - your sig/pic shows a lot - a TT.
Nothing against that - ST tires, for the most part, are acceptable for most TTs. Although the Airstream folks might not agree, LOL!
I even successfully used (Holy moly! Yikes!) GY Marathons on TTs!.
However, when you get to heavier trailers (5th wheels) ST tires are marginal at best. Even the ubiquitous self-styled tire "expert", FE admits to going through lots (22 or 23) ST tires on his 5th wheel.

New post follows for the Galaxy Road Rider STs.

Actually there's *LOTS* of info about these tires!
You just have to "dig" a bit to find it.
Galaxy Tires is/was founded in 1920's in Malden Mass.
In later years - the tires were mfg in some? US cities - but mainly in Tianjin, China.
Use Google to search names in bold.
The parent company of/for "Galaxy Road Rider ST" is/was GPX International Tire corp.
Supposedly (you decide) due to unfair import duties, GPX filed for bankruptcy protection.
Modern Tire - on GPX
(click upper R. corner to skip the ad)
At that time (apparently) Galaxy tires became no longer available in the USA - but sales were concentrated to Canada.
Also - GPX was sold to Alliance Tire.
Apparently Galaxy tires are/were mfg by Hebei Starbright Tire (China).
The Chinese companies appealed the ruling of/for "excessive" import duties - and won their case in 2011:
(CBS News)
"WASHINGTON - An appeals court has ruled that Chinese-made goods shouldn't be subject to certain kinds of import duties imposed by the U.S. Commerce Dept.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington upheld a ruling Monday that the duties called 'countervailing' duties, can't be applied to Chinese-made goods because it doesn't have a market economy. Chinese goods are still subject to anti-dumping duties.
Chinese tire makers GPX International Tire Corp, Hebei Starbright Tire Co. and Tianjin United Tire & Rubber International had challenged the imposition of countervailing duties. Countervailing duties are intended to tax items whose sale price when exported is subsidized by a company's home government.
The Commerce Department sought to impose the duties in 2007. The court ruled that congressional moves in 1988 and 1994 barred them."

*Chinese news* reports:
See - "Storyline"
"Peoples Daily Online" - LOL!
~
Roll on!.
"Roll" - on Galaxy tires??.
You decide - FE probably would - after all . . . they're STs!.

I'm not able to buy maxxis locally...I spent the day on the phone and all I can find are ATV tires.
Comparing my local pricing to tirerack.com is pointless, shipping with tirerack is also $265.00 to my postal code. Once they get here I will then have to pay 20 bones a tire to have them installed plus taxes. Ad what's worse, I'll pay taxes and duty at customs, and taxes again when installed.
I hear of many using light truck tires over special trailer...I would like to believe that application specific branding is relevant and that st are what I should be using.
I did find a dealer who will sell and install Carlisle ST 10 ply tires for the same price as the galaxy tires.
I found all the same galaxy tire information online as well...but none really suggests anything about quality...given that people only complain on the Internet perhaps no news is good news ?
