Except Winegard only sells the SK-3005 roofmount Slimline for $1600. OP was looking for something smaller and less cumbersome than a Slimline. The Dish 1000.2 mod works and works well. The 1000.2 is about 18 X 22. The 1000.4 is quite a bit larger I think.

My effort is here:

Since painted over Dish logo and converted to SWM.

my Sk-3005 is not cumbersome at all i just press 1 button voila TV and size is no concern as it folds to about the size of my stand alone at home.as to the cost can't argue that point(not concerned) as my TC was ordered new with the SK-3005 option.BTW i love it but i love the service after the sell more. YMMV

to date no problem as i am well aware of the benefits and drawbacks of a roof mount.the benefits far out weigh the drawbacks as i boondock exclusively and can ALWAYS move one way or another for a clear shot of the southern sky.i am sorry for those who must camp in assigned sites.

Roof mounts are fine for some, but I didn't ask about a roof mount. I asked about the possibility of a dish smaller than the slimline.

Yep, I guess I should have withheld my tongue-in-cheek comment that the only commercial HD "movable (not portable)" is STILL a Slimline, still big and heavy, puts numerous holes in the roof, doesn't work if there is an obstruction, and is pretty darn expensive in my book. Discussing a Trav'ler in response to OP's question is OFF TOPIC.

As Mike and I have said, the ONLY smaller dish solution is the Dish 1000.2 mod. The Dish reflector bolt pattern mates perfectly to the Phase III back plate. The arm must be elevated one thickness and lengthened. The Slimline heads have a nub which must enter a notch on the arm to fully seat. Solutions are use a Slimline arm, file off the nub, or cut a notch in the Phase III arm. Brute force works too. The LNB should be secured to the arm. Slimline's have a clamp and Phase III's use bolts. The holes do NOT line up so new ones must be drilled. Or, skip it. It ain't going anywhere under "normal" conditions. My arm is 18 1/4" from the dish leading edge to the LNB seat. Mike might post his. There will be variables. I experimented using shims and C-Clamps til I found my sweet spot.

This project costs about $50 and requires a hack saw, drill, file, wrenches/screwdrivers, and and nuts/bolts. I get low 90's off the 101 and low 80's off the 99 and 103. Good enough.

My next mod is replacing the opaque lens cover with clear plastic. Read it adds 5-7 points. I did it but am now waiting for rain to stop so I can try it. It will probably be as effective as the gas mileage gizmo I just bought off eBay, but I have to try.

not to put to fine a point on it but actually you asked both about a lighter(not smaller) dish than the slimline and you also asked about the align thingy to be used in conjunction with the slimline.my intention was not to get off topic/steal your thread but to point out the roof mount option in the event you end up going with the slimline.

again my apologies if that offended you.

The only point where my 1000.2 differs from schneids's is that I don't need any Phase III parts. I simply left the DISH back plate arm in tact and bolted the sawed off end of the Slimline on top of the DISH arm. Still looks the same.

For a lighter dish that works this isn't the only solution but it is the best. Many have used a Phase III DirecTV dish and simply replaced the horn with a SL3 horn. It just doesn't work quite as well, although many folks are happy with this. You can still acquire these on Ebay for $35 to $50
.

I thought I'd throw this out for everyone with Direct tv and wanting
A smaller HD antenna than slimline 3 or 5.
I happened in to this in YouTube under topic
Of Mini HD satelite dish. Someone took an old
Phase III direct tv satelite dish and put a SWM
3 LNB on it. They said it would get HD channels
On 99 and 103 plus 101 SD channels.
I had one if these old dishes laying around and
Ordered the 3 LNB Swm from amazon.
It works beautiful. A small dish not much bigger
Than old 18 inch, but gets all HD channels.
