Sorry I'm asking a lot of questions guys but I've tried searching and cant get an answer. I just picked up my new to me travel trailer this past weekend and it didn't have a battery on it, just the wiring for it. I know I need a deep cycle but what kind do you recommend, what size, how many etc?

I've contacted the manufacturer so they can send me an owners manual but it will be a week before I get it and I'm trying to gather all these things I need this week so I can get everything going on the TT this weekend.

All depends on how you plan to camp. If you intend to spend most of your time in the RV in RV parks or campgrounds with electric hook ups, a single group 24 12 volt battery of just about any type will do the job. Most with this style choose a marine/RV battery which is a combination deep cycle and starting battery. It will withstand a relatively low number of charge/discharge cycles but with that style of camping it would seldom be discharged. The occasional use of lights etc. when loading won't tax it anything to speak of.

If you plan on dry camping without hook ups the you'll need more battery (strength and quantity). For that style of use a couple of 6 volt golf cart batteries are close to ideal (similar to Trojan T 105 or some of the cheaper knockoffs. They have the same footprint as the group 24 marint/RV battery but stand about three inches taller. LARGE number of cycles and they provide a long slow discharge rate that is ideal for RV use. A set that is given moderately good care should last six to eight years.

If your trailer carries it's battery inside in a compartment and the compartment isn't sealed then an AGM battery is best because it doesn't off gas and has adequate power though initial cost is higher

No one battery type is the correct one for everyone.

Good luck with the new trailer / Skip

Depends on what type of camping you do.
If you just travel between RV parks with hookups, you could get by with one group 24 or 27.
If you dry camp, i would get two six volters.

Group 27, 12 volt deep cycle. One will do unless you plan on camping off the grid (without hookups) a lot.

You need the battery to operate the brakes in a breakaway situation. The dealer should not have allowed you off the lot without one.

yep, against the law to pull a trailer with electric brakes and not have a battery.

as others have said, depends on whether you camp with hookups or not.

I aquired the trailer from another person not from a dealer. I plan to be off grid mostly with the occasional trip to an RV park with hookups. My primary power source will be from a generator. Does that change battery selection?

jgos929.....One of the first things you need to do is either tell us what type of trailer you have or put it in your Avatar that will appear everytime you post. It will help others to answer questions if they know what you have.

Your trailer components, lights, fans, refer, heater and other items will not work without a battery, even when plugged in or using a generator. Think of your batteries as a large storage unit, as they supply even power to your components, your charger supplys them with a charge. You can't/shouldn't try to operate without batteries in place.

For the type of camping you said you will be doing, two six volt batteries would work well. You need to see if you can fit both on the front of your trailer, probably behind the propane tanks. If you only have one bracket now, try and make room for two. Both batteries should be mounted in a battery box.

yep, get two 6 volt golf cart batteries if you will mainly be dry camping or boondocking.
Costco has the best price on them but Trojan is the gold standard.

Sorry about that. I have a 2006 KZ Jag 29JB. when I hooked up my Honda generator to it the other day all the components you speak of did work. The only thing that I didn't check was the water pump. From what I gathered that runs off the battery
