There is no way you will ever recover the cost of buying a diesel. I have a Ford 6.4 Diesel which I love, but towing our 27" VR-1, my mileage is about 11-12 MPG. That would take a lot of towing to recover the cost of a new Diesel.

I moved to an F350, primarily because our old F-150 was being driven by the trailer a good part of the time and I wanted a larger Chassis to eliminate that, which it did. Gas mileage was not a factor in our decision.

Just some simple math:

IF it were a $5,000 add for the diesel and an overall improvement of 6 MPG and the costs of fuel the same (which its not in most cases) then,

$5,000 cost upgrade / (($4.00 gal gas / 10 mil/gal) - ($4.00 gal diesel / 16 mil/gal)) = 33,333 miles to recover cost of the diesel upgrade

This doesnt add in the maintenece adder for diesel over gas.

I pull a 2011 Skyline Joey and pull with 2007 F-150 small 8 and was getting 7.5 MPG and decided to purchase one of those wind deflectors (only available in Canada as far as I could find) and just returned from a trip from Branson and I got 9.4 MPH and because I am pretty much deaf I could only notice a low noise from the roof mounted unit. My F-150 also shifts a lot until I disengage the overdrive.

Would love to see a pic of the wind deflector and or where did you get it (website?).

The other thing to consider is that you will likely have the diesel for 500K+ miles. You are likely to keep the gasser for around 250K miles.

Sorry should have said Air deflector web site 'http://www.icondirect.com/aeroshield-wind-deflector-wd600-series/'
This is the site I went to and Like I said there are no places that I could find in the US guess we don't have people willing to woork any longer. I did a lot of research and really came up empty handed. I paid 380 some dollars and was shocked because it took 4 days to be delivered in Kansas City area. There are differant sizes and colors

Just got back from a 2850 mile trip from south central Kansas to Las Vegas and back;
2009 Nissan Titan with 5.6L pulling 5,000# TT. By playing with OD and cruise averaged 9.87 mpg and was pretty happy with that.

I asked my brother this morning who pulls a big 5th wheel with a 2011 F-250 Diesel. He says running empty he's getting about 20 MPG. Pulling his trailer he sees 12-14.
