We have been reading about the 2012 Jayco Eagle Super Lite HT models. We really like the floorplan of the 23.5RBS. However, the closest unit is about 600 miles away in North Carolina. Before we make the long trip to North Carolina, just to see the unit, how is the quality Of Jayco these days? The last time we looked at Jayco Class C by Jayco, I was not overly impressed. The pictures in the ads look good, but they are supposed to. Any issues with the Eagle Super Lites I should know about? How do they pull? Thanks!

When we were looking last fall Jayco's quality really stood out. I was impressed with HT models. We ended up not going with the HT because of the smaller capacity FW tank and the floor plan we liked best was in the Eagle Super Lite.
All in all I think you will be pleased.

I think a person would be fooling to purchase ANY brand of RV without seeing it first. Why would you need to travel 600 miles when there are Jayco dealers all over Florida? I find six 5th wheel Jayco dealers scattered from Jacksonville to Lauderdale and on both coasts.

EVERY BRAND builds a lemon now and again. Jayco is, after all, ran by us humans too! All I can say is of the 7 Jayco's we bought new and camped in with at least 2 kids and a dog with us everytime, held up well, and had great assembly quality.
We are always looking for Jayco #8 lately, and have not noticed any glaring issues with Jayco's quality...as a matter of fact it seems that most brands we looked at have improved their quality since we last shopped around!
My posts shouldn't be taken for factual data. They are purely fictional, for entertainment purposes and should not be constituted as actually related to scientific, technical, engineering, legal, spiritual or practical advice. Amen.
I have a 2008 Jayco Eagle super lite, 30.5 RLS and have not had any issues. (21K miles) It tows very well, plenty of power left over for the long hill climbs and overall quality is good. Happy hunting...

Jayco has been a superior brand in the past but the past two years, quality has been dropping dramatically. Between 2011 and 2012, Jayco cheaped out on many items, including poorer quality cabinet doors, cheaper cabinet and drawer hardware, poorer upholstery quality, replacing the stainless kitchen sink with a resin one in the Eagle line, cheaper lighting fixtures, etc. The worst was responding to complaints of a lack of a Glacier package on the Eagle TTs by cutting the amount of insulation in the roof, then replacing it with a so-called Glacier package one has to pay extra for. I recently learned that in 2013 Jayco is going to drop the best trailers in the Eagle line and make the Eagle lights and Superlights all Eagles, essentially reducing the quality of the entire Eagle line.
I've also been seeing more and more quality control and customer service issues (especially when it comes to warranty work) cropping up on the forums. I would stay away from Jayco until they clean up their act (if they don't go under first).

I couldn't agree less. When we were shopping to upgrade from a TT to FW last summer and fall we didn't set out looking for any particular brand. We kept coming back to the Jayco's because of the quality we were seeing. Our Eagle Super Lite came with Solid Wood Cabinets and a Stainless Steal Sink.
As far as the complaints on the forum, I have seen a lot of repeat complaints from the same few people. Every brand will have a few lemons.
When we were looking at FWs to replace our 18 year-old Jayco Eagle 215SD, we looked at the Jayco SuperLite HT 26.5 RLS and the rear kitchen one, as well as a Rockwood and a Copper Canyon 273RK, I think. Granted, that's not all the FWs out there, but of the three, the Jayco quality stood out, to us. We eventually bought the 26.5 RLS and, got it home the other day, spent the night in it, and then, kinda showing it off to some friends, the bedroom slide quit working. Took it back to the dealer and the tech talked to the manufacturer of the slide system, Schwintek by Lippert, and they told him it was a problem with that slide system and it was in a recall mode and would be replaced entirely. Still waiting on the call telling me it is finished.
As far as dealer work, I don't think it's just Jayco dealers who have fallen behind in the quality of their service. I took my boat to a Mercury Platinum dealer to have some work done and they did the work but didn't even check to see if it was done properly. Of course, it wasn't, and it's back at the dealer waiting for some parts to correct the problem. We also had a terrible problem with getting repairs done properly on our GMC so the next truck we bought was a Dodge Ram. At least it has some warranty on it, even if the work isn't done properly.
Jayco uses components that are a step up in many cases like MorRyde suspension, Progressive Dynamics power centers and such. As far as build quality I have to say that they are like everyone else in the business. They have their problems too.
The cabinets in our 2012 Eagle Superlite 31.5RLTS are solid wood on the doors only, the rest of the cabinets are laminate, the sink is resin, but I actually prefer that to stainless since stainless tends to look kind of crappy after some use.
Remember, Lite means less..... In order to lighten the trailer up they have to cut somewhere, lighter materials, less of some things.
I do suggest that you look it over really good and don't accept a trailer that has anything you don't like the looks of unless it is repaired first. We ended up with a roof that has a lot of areas that has debris under the membrane and Jayco says they will not do anything about it as they think it is "perfectly acceptable".
All in all Jayco makes a good product, you will likely have issues after you take delivery no matter what brand of trailer you buy, that's what the warranty is for.
Overall we are happy with our new Jayco 5er and look forward to many years of happy camping. Just find the trailer you like and go for it.
As far as going 600 miles to buy the trailer, well we had to go 700 miles to get ours. It was the only one of its type and with the right options. They had a mid-year model change and the DW didn't like the new changes so I had to scramble to find an "early" 2012.
Best of luck in your new Jayco.
