We're looking at buying a new DP in the US, the dealer will provide us with Temporary Tags to get us to the US/Canadian border.
He will provide all the necessary paperwork for us.
My Question is how and where do you get the temporay Tag/License when you get to the border. We'll be bringing it into Alberta.
Thanks

Contact your local DMV office and ask them. Many times you can simply buy a trip permit good for 10 days. Simply stick it on and you are good to go.

Do not forget, our beloved Canadian Border Guards are 'tax collectors' first and security second!
So....as you wind down ya window lets all chant this together....

Taxes paid on regestration ,you know to get the plates .
In ontario its everytime a car changes hands in Alberta I found no taxes on a private used car sale.
Border did not have any interest in collecting from me what so ever.

I have imported two motorhomes. One from Missouri and the second from Minnesota. As you know, you cannot get provincial plates until the vehicle has passed the inspection. The temporary state tag that the dealer should provide you with is valid in the US and Canada until you get the RV inspected and licenced provincially OR until the expiry date on the tag - likely 14-30 days. Really not a problem. Don't forget to get it insured. As a matter of interest and reassurance, I took 8 days plus to get each home and was never stopped by police even though the tag was only visible through a tinted road side window 6 plus feet above the road.
Be sure to have the dealer get recall clearance letters from both the Chassis and house maunfacturers and submit them to the RIV within 30 days of their date. Good luck and you will be amazed at the simplicity of the import process.

Also totally amazing at how much money you will save over buying the same piece of equipment here in Canada. Good Luck
