We are thinking about going to Colorado for several weeks during July & August. We would like to be on a river or lake in a scenic area. We are not fond of large busy places but want full hook up service. We would like to get to Direct TV satellite and be able to use our Verizon air card and phones. Any of you have some recommendations?

Thanks

Take a look at the Salida, Buena Vista, Leadville area. That is why we retired there.

First one that comes to mind is Priest Gulch between Cortez and Telluride - but don't know about Direct & Verizon - can contact them. And they may already be full for the summer.

You can forget the Leadville area. There are only two RV parks with full hookups. One is located right in downtown Leadville and would be considered a busy place.

The other is located near Turquoise Lake but is not on the lake and you cannot see the lake from there. And it is another busy RV park.

I'd recommend either the San Juan Mountains (Ouray or Durango), or the Buena Vista area. Full hookups available in both areas, and amazing scenery as well. We're going back to both this summer.

FYI - July & August are already heavily booked, so make your reservations ASAP.

One of my favorite campgrounds in CO is at Navajo Lake State Park, with full hookups. Sites are right on the bank of the reservoir. But just keep it to yourself.

Some of the campgrounds on the west slope of Colorado would probably fit your needs. Just stay away from the front range areas of the state. Way too many people for my taste. We will at times spend a week in the Woodland Park area as this was the area where my wife grew up and attended public school.
We have booked two weeks at Ridgway State Park for this summer, at the lower CG below the lake, as it has full hookups. Then will do a week at one of the commercial CGs in Ouray and finish up our summer stay, with a month in Montrose.

Some of the Gunnison area campgrounds are nice. We did have a membership at the Western Horizons CG west of town on the lake.
