We use paint thinner straight to cut the dirt/grease and any mildew stains. Works without hardly any scrubbing too!

My manual recommends Murphy Oil Soap, Spic n Span, and specifically says not to use bleach. We used Spic n Span last time, and it did a great job. Walmart also sells a roof cleaner which isn't expensive. It's designed for vinyl roofs. Whatever you do, be sure someone is rinsing the sides of the unit, or you'll get some really great streaks.

I have also heard/read never to use the powder version of any kind of cleaner on a rubber roof.

The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser's would probably do well on the spots on the roof if they are bothering you that much. There is no bleach or any other chemical in them at all. They are made of melamine foam.

There's got to be something in those things. They clean pretty much anything. I use Dawn dishwashing liquid, but I may try the spic n span next time.

Is Spic and Span recommended for interior fabric ceilings as well?

Anyone tried it?

The black coating protects the roof from sun and weather. That's my theory and I'm sticking with it. I don't wash my stick house roof either.

I have never understood the need for cleaning the roof. I use rainwater when available.

If I don't clean the roof, I get serious black streaks down the sides of the TT. Maybe it's not much of a problem in sunny CA.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that in order to maintain the warranty, the manufacturer required periodic cleaning.

I just put it directly on a scrub brush and have the hose handy (with top wet ahead of time). Maybe others do it differently, but that works okay for me. I still have stains that won't come off with a little elbow grease. I don't really have much choice but to store our TT under pine trees. I hope to at least get the trees down this year. I'm still on the fence about covering it. I've read all the long discussions on that subject.
