Not to get to political, but it is a states right issue. We have enough federal intervention into our state issues with out opening the door on state’s fish and game. Good idea for simplification of the user, not so good for the states. In Montana we have enough problems with our fish and game commission. It is strictly a political appointment by the governor.
A Non-Resident 72 hour fishing license in Michigan costs $21.00. Multiply that by 50 states = $1,050.00. In order to be fair, that's the amount that needs to be split between the 50 states otherwise someone is going to be losing money. Now I don't care much about ND, AR, CA, or about 46 other states, but I don't see any reason why Michigan should lose money to let a bunch of people to fish here. We already donate gas tax monies and a whole lot of other funds to the other states. You want to fish here, we have licenses available, and we have a reasonable fee already established for it.
Fishing has ALWAYS been under the jurisdiction of the states and I HOPE it stays that way. In this day and age there are many who believe that the Feds already are into far too many things. Kind of hard to see this happening any time soon.
