I am thinking about purchasing a 2000 Bluebird Wanderlodge LXI and wanted to know both the good and bad points of this motorhome. Can anyone help me?

Inspect very close for past water leaks. Some in that era had serious leak problems. I know a couple of friends that had them and the problem, also one, sold his because it was so bad and they could not find it.

X2 on the Wanderlodge Forum, Blue Bird made some of the finest coaches on the road. I have been around them for 20+ years and owned 3 different models. From all my experience and knowing 100's of owners the "water leak" statement above is bogus. Roofs are all steel (or aluminum on the M450). Not prone to leakage like many RV roofs. That said, if someone improperly installs a satellite dish or some other roof breach and does not properly seal it, all bets are off.

While there click on buy buy bluebird on the top of page. Randy has a few LXIs Listed for sale and most likely knows the history of the coach. If I were looking BB I would try real hard to purchase from him. He has a nice M380 listed also.

Follow the normal due diligence as you would for buying any motorhome, to ensure everything is working and the unit has been well maintained. If it passes muster, there is little doubt that you'll be buying one of the best DP's ever produced. Built like battleships, those BB's.

That site will be of FAR more help than you can imagine. If you have a question on Wanderlodges, they will have an answer.

Texan,
We will agree to disagree. A leaking roof on an unaltered Wanderlodge is practically non-existent. Again, I can't vouch for alterations made by unfamiliar or unqualified mechanics. Because these coaches have such a long lifespan, they tend to accumulate more alterations than coaches that don't have the longevity.

One disappointing thing about Blue Bird is their use of Power Tech generators. They work well but are very noisy compared to Onan. I get the opportunity to park close to one, often. If the unit you are looking at has a slide, make sure the numatic seal by HWH is not leaking. Very expensive to repair.

Sorry Rich, but just contact the President of the FMCA, Charlie is the one that had to get rid of his because of water leaks....Also there were several in the FMCA during the same time period that were having the same problems. NOT bogus.....
