A few people are offering to sell their pullrite auto slider. I'm always a little leary about buying used. So I'm wondering what people thoughts are on buying a used hitch?
What questions should I ask? How old is the hitch? How long have you had it? How long have you used it?
What's a decent price for used hitches?
What else should I be asking or looking for?
If you'd like to pm me your answers I would appreciate that as well.
Thanks!

I sold mine after I sold the Fifth wheel for around a thousand or so dolalrs (A real good deal I think).
My only advice is.. Make sure the rails are in good condition and make sure you can find a place that will install a used hitch. You might be suprised to learn some places wont. You may need to tell a story about how it's a new truck but transfered hitch..
Mine us used, came with the truck (part of why I was interested), it's a good hitch (Superglide). But it was in great shape.

Brother in law just bought one for 1,000. I have one and your biggest thing to look at are the rails the hitch plate slides on when you turn.
Few scratches and no gouges in the rails are what to look for. Does the hitch have visible lube or SlipPlate coating on the rails. The rails can be unbolted and turned over if necessary.
Great hitches, have had mine for amost 6 years

X2 on the smooth sliding surfaces.
Gouged surfaces would suggest a lack of lube.

This is important but two other areas of inspection too.
Check the pin latch release lever is not bent(it is what trips the pin latch as you back in).
Check the bearing/roller C3 on the turntable. Earlier models used a sealed roller bearing that can fail. Later models are a sleeve bearing.
Update the bearing immediately if the early style doesn't freely spin without a gritty feeling.
Bought my used 12k SG from a fellow advertising on CL for $700. He had upgraded his truck and FW and he needed a different hitch. It came with the mounting brackets for his old truck (Chevy) that of course would not fit my truck, so I had to buy the bracket kit. All in all a very good deal and much less than new. It was/is in great shape with no galling on the rails.

I'm getting pictures emailed to me with the story behind them. I can't physically see them until they get shipped. They are pretty far away. I'm assuming shipping will be pretty outrageous as well.
Would anyone mind if I send them the pictures so they can tell me what they think? Private message me your email address and I will send you the pictures.
So after looking at the pictures and hearing the stories of the used hitches I've decided that it doesn't make sense to buy the used hitches. They both wanted 1k for the whole kit and kaboodle and one of them he bought used many years ago. And the other person had a failure and rebuilt the 16k into an 18k. So both do NOT have any sort of warranty.
I went online and at Tweetys, I can buy the 18k superglide, industry standard rails and capture plate for around 1500 shipped and no tax.
The people selling the used hitches wanted 1k for them and I don't think that would include shipping which would probably cost and arm and a leg. For 500 more, I'd get new everything and a warranty.
I'm hopefully going to have it installed with a friend. Either way, I'd have to get it installed.
