We usually boondock on a friends property. My camping friends always want me to bring my satellite radio boombox along.
On a public campground, I do realize it would have to be kept at a low level.

We camp frequently at a local state park, if your music is loud you get a visit from the ranger. I do not know if someone else has called him or he or she is just driving by but thank goodness.

When I'm in a campground, I expect that there will be noise as anything less is really kind of silly on my part. Having groups or families scattered around me, thats expected. As long as everyone tones it down around quiet time, I'm happy.
I do use my outdoor speakers on my camper to listen to XM but keep them at a level that only my site can hear them. I walk the boundries of my site to make sure I'm not distrubing my neighbors.
If I want solitude and to listen to the birds and crickets and frogs, I go boondocking or to a campground during the week when there are less people there.
My only noise issue is people that have dogs that clearly have never been socialized and bark at every person walking buy. Why they would bring an animal like that and have it stressing all weekend as campers walk past their site is beyond me. I bring my dog but she is friendly and does nothing more than observe passing people and wags looking for a pat on the head.

Lot's of grumpy old campers in here..... You reserve a spot at a CG with others 15ft from you on all sides and think YOU can dictate how everyone else behaves! It makes me wonder:
1. How often you actually enjoy yourselves
2. Why there isn't more violence at CG's
If I want peace and quiet, we have friends with land in NH that we can boondock on for free at any time. When we book in a CG, we expect to enjoy whatever the mood is in the area at that time. As long as everyone adheres to the rules on quiet hours and cutting through sites, I'm a happy camper.......

There are those who go to a State Park to enjoy the peace and quiet. Then there are those who think that a State Park is party central. Personally we enjoy the peace and quiet.
If you are in the “Party Central” group, ask yourself this “If I was doing this at home, how long would it be before the neighbors complained and the police showed up?”
At the current campground we are working at there is a noise rule – “Loud noises, and/or the running of generators, and/or the running of motor vehicles are not permitted during quiet hour or at any time it disturbs any other people.” First time, I’ll remind you of the rule. Next time I get a Ranger out of bed and they will not be happy.

I rarely listen to music while camping. I quite prefer quiet. I don't care what someone else listens to but if I can hear it on my site it is too loud.

I dont think I will mess with Capt Kirk for playing his music box loud... He might get Scotty to beam us all away... That would be the last words we would hear "Scotty - give me more power - I need more power...."
My Posts are IMHO based on my experiences - PM me

RoyB, he he he he..... look what I started I wish I could beam a few up but most are fun to watch thats for sure!
I was just wondering people, no reason to get upset about things.
p.s. I am 47 (not an old grump yet) and camp at State Parks for the quite, but I do like a party here and there I just camp at other places for that.

For people that do listen, I have always wondered why they think others want to hear their music. Or mayby they dont care if you can hear it
