I can agree with you but can you agree with my campsite my rules. Meaning I should not have to put up with your noise and you mine. Kind of called respect. And yes asking people is the first stage. Then campground owners or rangers

I agree 100%. But if there is no rules indicating "no music allowed" then how is anyone supposed to know what everybody wants (if that is indeed what everyone wants).

As mentioned before.. One man's attempt at playing guitar around the fire is another's issue. Yet most here would be ok with the guitar. Even though you cannot control volume of the guitar at all compared to music.

Best bet, grow some and politely ask them to turn it down.99.99999% will listen to you/respect your requests as long as they are reasonable requests.

This is what I call camping. We all put our pants on the same way.

I likewise have a migraine reading that someone would be offended if the smoke from my fire blows into their campsite.

We had a couple pull in next to us last Friday in a Prius and they proceeded to pitch a tent and plug their tea pot into the electrical panel. I warned the group I was with, "Oh, these guys are going to hate us!" ...with our 8 mpg V10, radio, bonfires, beer drinking til 11, etc.

Oddly, they were as nice as could be and talked to us throughout the night. They left me with a very positive impression of Prius driving, tent pitchers.

I assume we did the same.

Many of us have "grown some," and have no problem with asking someone to turn down a radio. But in my experience, the very type of person who thinks it's OK to blast their music across a campground is often the type that is least likely to respect you or your request. You know, the ones that feel entitled to RV any way they please.

Exactly. Generally if the person is at all considerate, they wouldn't be blasting their stuff in the first place. Even worse, my experience is that the same people with the loud music who get the ranger called on them in the first place wouldn't hesitate to slash someone's tires later in the evening as an act of revenge.

Man, some of you guys on here can turn anything into an argument. By and large, it seems to me that most people that I have camped around have been very considerate. I'm guessing that most all of you - probably every one of you - would be considerate if we were camped together. But those same considerate people become bullies, inconsiderate and downright nasty when you sit them behind a keyboard. Why in the world is this?

Here we go....

Quote:

Sigh ... so you really think no one here has ever tried talking to a "suspect" and asked them to turn down their music? LOL

Judging by the responses (and my experiences in the states)...Yes.

Quote:

The problem with that is that too many people, like yourself apparently, think that they are entitled to RV however they want, regardless of who it infringes upon.

Why is that a problem? If I'm camping at a campground and following the campground rules. I am doing NOTHING wrong. I could care less about your "personal space" since you do not OWN that site, and I paid just as much (if not more) to be there. Define Personal space..What infringes on you, may not infringe on me and vice versa.

You're forgetting one thing, I never said i was the partier, in fact I'm quite the opposite in regards to noise. I try to make everyone's experience an enjoyable one at the campground (ie, I keep my kids under control, music reasonable (if on at all)), in fact, I'm one of few (obvious by this topic), that will socialize with others at the campground. If someone comes over and has a noise concern, I acknowledge it, as long as: #1 the person is asking respectfully, and #2 the person in being reasonable. If the person is complaining about my son laughing too loudly, well..you get the point (I hope).

Yes, But this is exactly what I mean. If I'm sitting there listening to music, how do I know what your "too loud" is? This may not be intentional, but maybe my hearing is not as good as yours (ironic), so what seems like a reasonable level to me, is not a reasonable level to you. Or maybe I did the walk test, turn the music on, walked 10ft from the source, and couldn't hear it, but then you're 15ft away and can hear it like your sitting in the concert. You see what I mean. There's a level of tolerance that needs to be defined, and people are typically more reasonable if a relationship is developed before the "problem" starts.

So what would the next step be then(instead of complaining about it on the interweb)?

Even more the reason to befriend them before the incident. IE. they wouldn't suspect you. ACtually, I have done this many times.

I stayed at a CG a couple of years back where there was a sign posted at the check-in which stated "If we can hear your music outside of your RV, you will be asked to leave". I think when its put like that, each camper can decide if those rules work for them, or not.
I suspect the management had one too many noise complaints... but it seemed to be working for everyone there at the time.

You're stereotyping based on nationality? C'mon, surprise me.

I think you just put your finger on the biggest difference between you and I.

But, to the question at hand. If you are following camp rules - that is, you are not operating any audio device, such as a radio or musical instrument, so that it disturbs other visitors, as per U.S. Forest Service rules - I'm not talking about you. I'm talking about people that play a radio so loud that it disturbs others in the campground.

If I'm camped next to one of the .0000001 percent you say won't listen to or respect others' requests, I kick it up the ladder of authority. But, seeing that I often camp in remote campgrounds that have neither camp hosts nor patrolling rangers, this is often not an option. Having witnessed fist-fights break out over this very issue, I usually chose not to escalate the matter beyond a one-time request to turn it down.

The Forest Service standard, nebulous as it is, says that your music should not be so loud as to disturb other campers. I choose not to play music at my campsite at any volume that can be heard in another site.

Are we arguing about music blasting or a small group (3or5) of normal healthy adults enjoying a fire some refresments, some music and camaderie with friends or family. I'm sorry, but you will hear muted music, conversation and laughter coming from my site. That is the nature of the beast plain and simple. I paid the same money as you for my site and I have a RIGHT to use my site in any way that does not violate law or exceed societal standards.
I am a decent guy and unless you were a complete jerk you probably were extended an invitation to join us.
If you want to hear nothing your expectations are unrealistic, and you should restrict yourself to boondocking.

We are guiet and dislike hearing others music. Being said we absolutely understand that some folks view it as their escape. As long as it is not blasting and is turned off during quiet hours we are okay with it. It is a lot better than someone burning wet wood on hot days simply to have a fire Or the dog owner who doesn't need to leash their pet.
