I'm old which means I went to school a long time ago. I was taught that certain words like travel required doubling the l when making traveller. Bus(to me) becomes busses, etc. Spell check tells me that this is incorrect spelling and I refuse to give into spell check on this. How do you feel?

I think you're right. Maybe you have a defective spell checker.

Traveler is the US version, while Traveller is the UK version. With Bus, the plural is busses in the US and buses in the UK. I still use all the UK spellings after almost 40 years as many are the same as Canadian, but some like Tyre, Kerb and Aluminium are not!

Just make sure you have your Spellchecker set to Canadian!

But it looks like you speak text fluently! I went to school a lot more recently than you guys and I still use the ignore button on my spell checker for certain things.

One that I see on here as well as other places is "quite" when somebody is referring to "quiet". I've even heard "quiet" pronounced "quite" when the intended use is obvious. Therefore I think we should all make the effort to substitute "very" for "quite" and "hush y'all" for "quiet". 
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
