Just for general information, I do carry extra studs and you don't need a press. A good sized hammer and a drift will get old ones out and new ones in far enough to put the tire on and pull them in the rest of the way with a wrench. Of course you will need to stop after about 25 miles or so to retorque.

Very true, I have replaced thousands of wheel studs in my career as a mechanic. I have a tool made for installing them, its a bearing thingy that rotates with the lug nut while tightening it so it doesn't grind into the hub or wheel or bottom out the threads.

FYI, there are wheel studs on trailer hubs that SCREW IN, not pressed in. Very difficult to replace !!

Wow, glad you got away with no injuries to anyone and what looks like relatively light damage to the trailer. This post caught my attention because I just today installed a new dexter drum on my 7K axle due to losing a bearing. I sure hope there is not a quality control problem with these studs, I will be watching the mirrors closely!
As I was standing there on the side of the highway looking at the smoldering remains of what used to be my brake drum I was thinking how nice it would be to have a spare drum stuffed with bearings. After seeing your broken studs I think I will order a spare and add it to the parts box.

after reading this and only one person brought up the fact that if the lugs where loose that the wheel would have damaged! I'm going with defective

Can I ask what you torque your lugs at? Amazing how much of this I have seen and heard about lately. In the past month I have seen two large trailers on the side of the road with tires that had come off. I use to be kind of slack on checking the lugs don't think I will be anymore. Was your wheel destroyed as well?

Hmm... I think you handled that one correctly by calling AAA, That is what the ol RV Plus is for. I carry allot of stuff. Full size tool box. Two spares. No wheel studs. You did a great job loading the trailer and truck.

No the wheel drum was not seize, still would spin. Lugs were tighten by me with a torque wrench, same as the other three. I am thinking factory defect, but could never prove it.

Wheel nuts should always be retorqued after a hundred miles or so. Especially with new hubs. I'll bet they loosened up while motoring down the road.

I have had to to battle with AAA twice on the open road when the tow truck driver pulled up to my Tow Vehicle and Toy Hauler combination. Arguing with AAA to the point of, "Tell me what 'extra' coverage I need above and beyond my RV Plus so I can get both of my vehicles towed and I will buy it!" Glad it worked out for you.
