Driving in those conditions as you approach someone to pass and while passing you collect quite a bit of spray from the tires of the other vehicle. Probably lost sight of the road, maybe reached down to turn on wipers???

Wow, that was terrible!!! Lived in snow country all my life, now that I can do it I head south in the winter so I don't have to travel in those types of conditions.

I have seen lots of bad things in my 40 years but that may be the worst thing I ever saw.My heart started racing and I could only imagine how the people involved must have felt.

For those of you who didn't follow the link, Snopes suggests the truck was a Nissan Navara. In North America, the closest thing to the Navara is the Frontier.
Not surprisingly, the 32 year old driver was killed, semi driver was moderately injured.

Ryan's correct about the 4x4 and SUVs (AWD). We had a saying on CHP that the only difference between a 2x4 and 4x4 was when you were stuck in a 4x4 you were really stuck. Just because they'll go a little better doesn't mean they'll "whoa" any better.

I dont know too many US roads that dont have a median or divider between high speed lanes like that road. If anything it would be a country road and the closing speeds wouldnt be as fast.

It is not just snow that this happens. It can be rain or even dry pavement. As a retired over the road truck driver I have seen to many of these accidents. Lack of attention and driving to fast for weather conditions is a recipe for accidents.

I just about made the DW jump out of her chair. I thought there would be an accident but like others I wasnt expecting to see that truck just explode. The person in the semi I feel terrible for. The guy in the box truck did an amazing job to stay out of the more serious part of the accident.
