Hi there!
Brand new Montana. 10,000 miles within three months of buying...had blow out ...heavy damage to new coach. First trip after that to Discount Tire for all new including spare B.F. Goodrich Ta Commercial.
Goodyear and Keystone knew nothing of bad tires. Disgrace that the manufacture puts junk on these nice trailers. Forget the ST and go with a good LT tire.

So did you get Goodyear to cover the cost of new tires and the damage to your trailer? Some are turning these claims into their insurance companies rather than getting the tire manufacturer to foot the bill!

I got 3 years and 25K miles out of the very same brand ST tire the OP mentioned. They still looked good but I did not want to deal with a blowout and the subsequent damage involved so I replaced them with Maxxis ST tires for peace of mind. The stock Transmaster tires are now on a seldom used flatbed trailer.

Very similar results from Transmaster OEM tires on my 2008 TH. ST235/80R16 LRE. Quite surprised actually -they held air very well for an ST. Most ST's loose air fast sitting over the winter -these did not. Took them off because the sidewall rubber was starting to look/feel different. I am anal about tires.

Mid 2007 date codes on a trailer born January 2008. Changed out August 2011 not sure of mileage but about 20K traveled on all kinds of roads, paved, gravel and dirt with all kinds of temps. No speeds over 65mph except a short burst to pass here and there.

My trailer is stored in my driveway except when in use. I used to use Goodyear Marathon ST rated trailer tires until they moved production to China. I always had good luck with the Goodyears. After they became just another Chinese tire, I switch to Maxxis (Thai made) and have never had a problem with them. I have gotten over 40,000 towing miles with each of my last two sets and they were both replaced due to tread wear. I now have 10,000 or so towing miles on my third set and they still look like new. Over the years I've had several punctures from nails and similar debris in the road and have had them patched and never had a problem with any of them after patching. At this pint Maxxis are the only tire I will run on my trailer.
Trailer is nominally 8000 lb. and I run 15x225R 15 Load range C on my trailer and usually run them at between 50 and 55 PSI cold and limit my speed to around 70 MPH with the trailer. I normally travel between 15,000 and 20,000 miles per year.
Good luck / Skip

My STs lasted all the way home from the dealer. I couldn't find a reason to use a tire I wouldn't trust. Sooner or later I would have replaced them with LTs. I chose sooner.

Just put new tires on my 08 Jazz 3300, 36' 5th wheel. The old ones were Transmaster 235/80-16 E. Tread was about 50% but the DOT date codes put two at 10 years old and two at 11 years old. I guess the dealer or mfg. swapped out the D tires for older E tires before I bought it, As I did buy this trailer new with these tires. Sticker on trailer calls for same size tire, but load D rating at 65 psi. As my weight on the tandem axles ran 9400+/- lbs, I ran 70-72 psi on the E tires.

It is always stored under roof in shade and the tires had absoulutly no signs of cracking or weathering. Only reason I changed was needed to replace some tires on a offroad farm trailer, so put the new rubber on the 5th wheel. Considering all the horror stories on ST tires I think I did quite well. Always checked pressure before hitting the road and checked them visually and for temperture anytime stopping for breaks. I also usually keep my speed ~60mph max while towing.

Anybody else get this kind of life out of ST tires?

Oh... I put BF Goodrich Commercial TA, 235/85-16 E tires on this time.

My first set of Chinese D-rated tires lasted < 3 years and 2,000 miles, with the first one going away in < 2 years and 1,000 miles. I put a set of E-rated Greenballs on in 2006 and they, surprisingly, lasted until this summer. I'm gambling on a newly engineered E-range Carlisle with an R speed rating (106 mph), that were substantially less than the Maxxis tires I was certain I was going to buy. With 15" rims, I'm very limited in what I can get and going to E-range is the only real compromise. For you to get 10 years out of an ST is way on the far end of the curve, for sure. Most suggest replacing at 3-4 years, no matter what the mileage. You have many more options with 16" rims; the BFG's should serve you well, from all I've read about them.

Remember if replacing LR-D with LR-E to check the RIM rating. Usually stamped on rear, or in valley UNDERNEATH the tire.
