On my 2k setting that would equal .549 x 2k = 1098 ohm..maybe?

You're getting a reading of 549 ohms on the 2k scale. I don't know what the limits are on your thermistor, but one post said it should be around 5k ohms so if you go to the 20k scale it should read in that area if the thermistor is working.

The range of my thermistor is 8,000 - 10,000 ohms

Help me out on this. If open circuit is 1. and short is .000, and .549 is 549, then what would 1500ohms be?

2K= 2000 Ohms full scale.
If you see a reading of .549, that is 549 Ohms on the 2K scale. You can't measure a value that's almost 3 times the resistance value of the 200 Ohm scale.

OK, so you have replied with a head scratch on both this thread and the other one you listed above in the last hour. Are you just wasting our time or is there something you don't understand?

Edit: Isn't that what I posted above? We're all trying to also help you understand your meter

Edit again: I have this meter, but not in front of me. The manual I dug out of the drawer claims a resolution of 1 ohm on the 2k scale, so I still think that's 549 ohms, not 0.549, which is a considerably more expensive meter. Yours doesn't start measuring tenths till the 200 Ohm scale, and you said it didn't register there..
