Hi, looking at brochure for a new ram. its kinda confusing as for 3500, it shows 3 beds, SB, RB, LB. I presume thats for short bed,
reg bed, long bed. I only know of the 6'4" and 8' beds.
but the real issue is the payload. these, with crew cab, and 4X4.
it looks like the payload is only 2680. that seem light.
anyone know?
thanks

2680 is more than a ton. 3500 is known as a "One Ton".. Sounds good to me.

Sounds about right. The GVWR is 10,100#, and the truck will weigh ~7500# (Crew cab, diesel, 4x4, 8' bed, auto trans).

Mine is a little lighter @ ~7250# with the old 4 speed auto and the 5.9L Cummins. So my payload is 2850#.

The short bed is only available on the 1500.

I'm not sure where you are getting the info. Dodge/Ram like to combine some information on their trucks between half ton and 3/4 and 1-ton Only the half tons has the short (5.5') bed. HD is 6.5'/8' only.

Payload on the Ram Cummins has always been relatively lower than GM and Ford. Looks like the payload is based on a 10.1k GVWR. I thought they had an optional higher GVWR, but cannot find it. Competitors are in the 11.5k range, with similar curb weight, thus closer to 4000 pound payloads for crew cab 4WDs.

The DRW trucks have a 12,300# GVWR and the payloads are in the 4500# - 5000# range. There is no optional GVWR for the 3500 SRW.

Use Ram Body Builders Guide clicky link for the latest offerings for the Ram truck.

The biggest issue with the Ram 3500 SRW low payload is the puny 6200 RAWR the mfg give the Ram VS 7000+ RAWR for a GM/Ford SRW. Thats a 800 lb difference.

Yep. That is why, if I were buying a new Dodge, the only Dodge I would buy is the Dually. The 2500/3500SRW Dodge's simply don't have the GVWR, payload capacity and rear axle capacity of the current GM/Ford 3500SRW trucks. Dodge is about 1500 lbs behind in GVWR and 1000 lbs behind in RGAWR.

Dodge needs to get with the program. Quit fooling around with gimmicky engine start/stop and rear air/coil modifications to the 1500 trucks and focus on getting the 2500/3500SRW trucks up to snuff with the other 2 brands. The 3/4-ton and one-ton diesel pickup market is Dodge's bread and butter, as far as trucks are concerned.

And yes, I'm old fashioned. I still call them Dodge.

Wow. So the 2500 diesel has a RGAWR of 6000 and the 3500 a RGAWR of 6200. Front axle ratings are the same. So, the next time someone asks the difference between the 2500 and 3500 I guess the correct answer is "1/10 of a ton". I know there is a difference in GVWR, but its the axle ratings that really matter. Makes no sense for the manufacturers to have both a 2500 and 3500 SRW since they are virtually the same save for a few numbers.
