Has anyone taken a trailer down the Cajon Pass in southern California. We are thinking of finding a park in Victorville CA and commuting to my mom's in Sun City. Any thoughts?

Wind seems to be the biggest problem. If it's really windy, get under an underpass and wait it out. Otherwise it shouldn't be a problem.

We drove it in a Motorhome, (not towing) last month to get to Palm Springs. It's a solid freeway through the pass. Lots of traffic and trucks. It can sometimes get very windy, I hear. When we came back north, we went through Yucca Valley and across to Victorville. It was a much better ride for us, (two lane blacktop). For you it would be a straight shot south, all LA freeway.

My opinion only....

I would be more inclined to find a place closer to Sun City, CA. We live at the base of the Cajon Pass and the Santa Ana winds are bad when they blow. But the traffic! the commuters coming down the hill in the morning and then again in the evening. Friday's are crazy with the commuters and the people heading out to Vegas.

Thoughts.......YES

Take your trailer on down the road to say Temecula......check out Tucalota Springs RV Park & Campground. Short commute to Sun City.

Rv Parks in Victoville are old, run down, full of permanents, next to FWY, train tracks or both. Adelanto is worst and Hesperia is no better.
Plus your commute to Sun City will be about 1 1/2 hrs. at best then the commute back can be 3 hrs. depending on traffic. I traveled Cajon Pass everyday for 10 yrs.......traffic sucks.

Towing a trailer down/up Cajon Pass is not a big deal......only short section is steep (about 2 miles) but it's 4 lanes in each direction and just stay over in the 2nd from right lane....2 left lanes will be flying by at 70 mph (+) and far right lane semi-trucks will be on your rear end.

Go to Temecula/Murrieta/Perris etc..........not 'Victim-ville'

Interstate highways all have the same 6% grade standard whether in the Mountains or inside a major city. The grades will be longer in the mountains

Look for a place in Hemet. Much closer to Sun City and full of BIG snow bird parks.

A long commute from VV to Sun City with lots of traffic thru San Bernardino, Riverside and Moreno Valley.

I worked Riverside CHP for a couple of years and got paid to drive in that mess. No way would I do it for free. JMHO.

The Cajon pass is no problem, we've been up it and down it countless times. We live fairly close to it. No issues towing up or down that pass. Just watch your speed coming down.

Good advice.
