Guinness draft in a bottle has a little capsule in it that looks like a rocket that releases CO2 when you tip the bottle. It is the closest to the real thing IMHO.

A family member, who is an avid Guinness drinker, just came back from a trip to England, Scotland and Ireland and found the difference in taste from country to country.
He enquired with the Guinness people while in Ireland as to why and their reply was:
Under brewing regulations any product being sold out of country has to be pasturized for health concerns. Guinness in Ireland is shipped in refridgerated trucks and stock rotation is heavily monitored. Product shipped everywhere else has to be pasturised, hence the difference in taste.
I don't know if this is true but sure sounds good.
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

I don't like Guinness Stout in the bottle.
I really like Guinness Draught in the can.
I can't stand Colorado Kool-aid.
Lowenbrau, IMO, is the best, but it is very difficult to find around here.

So true in all aspects. The bottles don't have the widget anymore.

No more rocket bottle Guiness? Oh for shame. It was the closest in taste to the Irish version.

Kitten Personally I always thought the cans had more of the real taste. The newest bottles tout that it has the same great taste without the widget, but it is a far cry from being as good IMO. Passing thru Ireland and getting the real stuff will definitely spoil you to the point where you almost won't ever drink it in the states again.

When it's 110 out it doesn't matter. Any really cold beer tastes like the nectar of the Gods.

I personally never liked Guiness before having it in Ireland. Tastes like a completely different beer there.
I do have to say I got spoiled while being stationed in Germany. After being there and having more different amazing beers then I can count. I will say that there is nothing that is made in St Louis or Golden Colorado, or anywhere else in the U.S. from the big brewerys that should even be called beer.
As of the last couple of years there are some really good microbrews out there in the states that are comparable to some of the good european beers.

It's actually nitrogen in the widget.
There are a lot better stouts out there than Guiness!
