I have Cougar TT 21RBSWE with slide out bike rack/carrier. It has no tie down provisions for small generator, crate of firewood, etc. Has anyone solved such a problem? I've thought of fastening (screws/bolts)small "D-ring" clips in the grooves over the angle braces to attach straps/cords for securing the generator, tubs & milk crates. This carrier is a great extra for trailering!

Hi Joe welcome to the forums.
I looked at the Keystone website and that slide out rack is really cool. I wish my Jayco had something similar. How is the rack attached to the trailer? Is it a fully boxed frame and the rack slides into the box on each side Do you have any pictures that show the rack in better detail than the brochure on the website?

As far as your question about tying down a generator I would ask if there are provisions for tying down a bike? Can you use those same mounting points for the generator?

Good luck with finding a way to tie it down.

It isn’t designed for heavy items. IIRC 200lbs is the max weight. It is open box framing, but w/ a bit of welding to reinforce it I could see it taking a greater load. I don’t use mine as it presents a problem at 34 off bottoming out where we camp a lot, so I try to avoid using it for majority of my applications. I think it was designed for the 1950;s bikes because two mt bikes are hard to fit….lol I drilled some holes in the plastic base so I could run straps/bungees through.

I have one of these on my 293SAB 5er. It is a square tube that fits inside another almost complete tube (slot cut in the bottom half way up. The whole thing is welded to the underside of my I-beam frame. Max load is #200. Take the plastic tray off, put down heavy expanded metal and hook ratchet straps to the angles that support the tray.

Got one on my North Trail too. Love it (except I hit a tree and broke it). I use bungees, many, many, bungees. Never had a problem with anything moving.

You should have this bar on your rack. If not you can order one, also there are two notches on ether side so you can attach your strap hooks to a hole in the frame.

Note the bar will pivot at the bottom on a bolt to the upright position then drop down into a pocket.

I've often thought about modifying mine and creating some sides for carrying light loads. Has anyone done the welding on it to re-inforce it?

The rack on my Prower 27P BHS is rated at 250lbs. I was planning on putting my Yamaha EF3000iSEB on it with some ratchet straps and a chain/padlock. Says it weighs 155lbs.

I would recommend having a certified welder check the frame structure and especially the welds. 200-bs at the tail end of a trailer is going to take a lot of stress on our super-smooth highways.

On several occasions I have dragged the rear bumper and spare tire - and the slideout was not in the open position!

If you do use it in the entended position, take special care going thru dips, etc.
