I have a Travel Light 840SBR that is 4 years old. The two passenger side eye bolt tie downs broke completely off right at the nuts. I can't remove what's left of the remaining threded shank or nuts. Do I have to remove the exterior shell to get access to the top of the bolt/nuts in the frame of the camper? Would it be safe and secure to drive in eye lag screws next to where the broken eyebolts were? I'm taking the rig to Montana next month (1650 miles) to get a stabil-lift system installed but I gotta make good and sure that I secure the TC to the truck.

If the manufacturer is still around I would call them and see what they suggest.

You may be able to access them from the inside through a cabinet space or appliance space.

I would not use a threaded lag eye bolt in to the wood. The tie down eyelets really do need to be secured into some kind of backer inside the camper in order to not pull through or break whatever they're screwed into.

An alternative, if you cannot access the inside at all, would be weld a reasonable size piece of steel angle, like say 2x2x3/16, spanning from the front jack bracket to the rear jack bracket, then weld hooks to the bottom of the angle, drill some holes in it and lag screw the angle into the bottom and side of the camper in a few places.

X2 on contacting the mfg.on the flip side hope you have thoroughly researched the stable lift and are comfortable with the cost, functionality, limitations, etc of the stable lift.it would not work for me as most of my trips are off road .GLTU,hope you get your eyebolt issues resolved.

Yes, look for the remainder of the eye bolts in a cabinete or under the seating. I have access to two in those locations. At the same time you might want to go to a heaveier bolt and fender washer.

You did not give a lot of info here...and some pics would help...I would seriuosly consider looking around for other (water?) damage on this camper before you invest in a $tabil lift...

Good luck,
Bill

A drill bit and an E Z Out tool, might be able to remove the broken bolt that remains. Then replace the bolt with one the same size but preferable a better quality bolt.

I would not recommend lag eyes. I did that and they pulled out. I ended up pulling the water heater out to gain access to the area on a past camper to re-do the tie downs.

Since you are going to the stable lift system this is going to be a temporary fix . All the tie down eye bolts will probably have to come off to install the stable lift . How about using heavy duty load straps hooked to the jack mounts and the truck tie-downs for the one-way trip. The jack attachments are good for about 2000# as apposed to the original eye bolts which are meant for maybe 300# .
