I'll be coming from Bakersfield heading to Lake Casitas north of Ventura. Looks like Hwy 126 is a good route to Ventura, then north on Hwy 33. Any steep grades or concerns about that route? I'll be pulling a fifth wheel and we'll be traveling on a weekday. This is our first trip to this area and would also like recommendations of what to see in the area.

No problems across the 126 whatsoever. Once you're off the freeway the road becomes..a road. But there's 5'ers up there all the time.

The easiest way we discovered into Casitas is take the Hwy 33 into the Ojai area and go West on Hwy 150. Take a left onto Santa Ana Road and you'll quickly see Casitas on the right. Our stinkin' GPS sent us in a different direction with low hanging trees on a windy road. Discovered this route as we went exploring and could have kicked ourselves.

The 126 is an easy road and your going through orange groves with plenty of fruit stands along the way. Your toughest grade is the Grapevine itself. Don't know when you are going through, but if it is this weekend maybe some snow in the Frazier Park area so keep an eye on road conditions.

Wave as you go by as I live in Bakersfield.

Thanks for all the responses. We're going down on the 18th. Weather shouldn't be a factor.

No problems
but 2nd the 150 route suggestion - GPS gets funny up there & will route you some very wrong ways!
